Thelma I. Myers Harrisonville, 94

Thelma Irene Myers, 94, Harrisonville, died at home Saturday, October 26, 2013.

She was born November 13, 1918, in Harrisonville, Fulton County, Pa. She was the daughter of the late John Fremont DeShong and Agnes Milfred (Oakman) DeShong. She was married to Rev. Dr. Paul E. Myers, December 24, 1939, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Pa. They had been married 66 years at the time of his death June 1, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Arnold Paul Myers, September 17, 2013; four brothers; and six sisters.

She is survived by her children: Caroline Agnes (Myers) Reyes, and spouse Abraham of Bridgeport, Conn.; Ray Noel Myers and his partner, Scott Gahagen; and Janice Lorraine Myers, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter in-law, Melissa (Carter) Myers of Berwick, Pa.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her extended family and friends.

She grew up and worked on the family farm. She enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening and planning and planting her flowerbeds. The birds were always fed and her binoculars were always handy. She had a beautiful voice and could often be heard singing while working around the house.

Throughout her life with Paul, she served church parishes as Paul’s assistant and as an active volunteer with the United Methodist Women and other charities in Fulton, Bedford, Huntingdon, Blair, Franklin, York and Dauphin counties. Her devotion to God and her faith in the presence of God’s love in all human beings were evident in her demeanor and in her actions. She was a devoted, loving and generous wife and mother. She is and always will be the heart and soul of her family.

Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey handled arrangements for cremation and internment, which was private in Hershey Cemetery.

All are welcome to join family and friends at a memorial service Saturday, November 23, 11 a.m. at Charlton United Methodist Church, 5920 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA., 17111.

Donations may be made in her honor to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania or to Charlton United Methodist Church where she was a member.
