Jury Finds Man Guilty In Pa. Slaying Of 3 Teens
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A man who opened fire on a car crowded with teenagers, killing three of them, has been found guilty of first-de- gree murder by a Philadelphia jury.
WCAU-TV reports prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against 32- year-old Axel Barreto in the January 2012 deaths of 14- year- old Joshua Soto, 14- year-old Dante Lugo and 16- year-old Javier Orlandi.
The shooting followed months of hostility between the teens and another group that included Barreto’s stepsons.
Prosecutors said no one in the car was armed and Barreto fired 10 to 12 times at close range, continuing as the car was fleeing.
Defense attorney Jack McMahon said the teens were circling the block, terrifying the family. He said the car was heading toward Barreto when he fired.
