Vernon R. Black, 79

Chambersburg

Vernon R. Black, 79, Chambersburg, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born May 29, 1934, in Hustontown, to Harper and Nancy (Cook) Black. He was married to Yvonne Lynch Black on April 21, 1956.

He had worked for Sears for more than 35 years as a carpenter and installer.

He was a member of Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church. He enjoyed working in his woodshop, photography, his motorcycle and scooters, social time at the gym and going to Florida in the winters. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne P. (Lynch) Black, and their three children: Rodney V. ( husband of Sheila) Black of Chambersburg; Linda C.(wife of Barry) Martin of Chambersburg; and Nancy L.( wife of Joseph) Garns of Chambersburg; four grandchildren: Brock and Jack Martin and Erin and Nikki Garns; one sister, Betty Jane Johnson of Shippensburg, and a brother, Donald E. Black of Hustontown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harper Black Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church with Pastors Kevin Witter and Larry Locke officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, October 24, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Kelso- Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance, 344 Leedy Way East, Chambersburg, PA. 17201 or to the Gospel Tide, P.O. Box 399, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg, will be handling the arrangements.
