Xi Eta Lambda, Mc- Connellsburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, started out the third quarter of the year by celebrating the sorority’s birthday with a party, balloons, cake, ice cream and a pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey game. Sisters tried to guess who their beta buddy was for the past year after looking at a name tag on a birthday gift that gave hints. Then new secret sisters were drawn for the next year.
The sorority was granted a 3-Star rating for the past year from International.
Sisters solicited local businesses for prizes and worked on committees preparing for the Fulton County Fair Queen contest. On Sunday, August 11, sisters began early to decorate the stage at the fairgrounds for the Fulton County Fair Queen contest. At 5 p.m., a tea was held at the McConnellsburg American Legion for the contestants and judges to get acquainted. Then at 8 p.m., the five contestants vied for the title, with Sarah Hollinshead being crowned the 2013/ 14 queen. She will represent our county at Hershey for the state fair queen contest in January.
Beginning Day was held the end of August with a progressive dinner beginning at Vickie Gordon’s for salad, then at Summer Stiffler’s for the entrée, and ending with dessert at Cindy Headley’s.
For service projects, the sorority donated personal items to Fulton County Medical Center Long-Term Care and helped with the Relay for Life.
