Larry J. Snyder
Larry James Snyder, 64, Burnt Cabins, died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Pinnacle Health, Harrisburg, with his wife at his side. He had been ill for a short time and his death was unexpected.
Born February 17, 1949, at Mt. Union, Pa., he was a son of the late Leonard and Lorma (Rinker) Snyder. He was married to the former Sandra Mae Glunt on December 17, 1970, at the former Otterbein United Methodist Church, Orbisonia. Mrs. Snyder survives at their home.
He is also survived by one daughter, Amy Lynn Snyder of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons: Bryan David Snyder of York, S.C., and Christopher Larry Snyder of Burnt Cabins; two grandsons: Austin and Mason Snyder of York, S.C., and one grandson, Joseph, who was adopted out in 1990; one brother, Leonard Jay, and his wife, Pat, Gardners, Pa., along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He graduated from Southern Huntingdon Co. High School. After his marriage, he was employed at the former Genesco Inc., Mt. Union, Pa., until 1974. He then worked at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, until 1986, at which time he and his family moved to South Carolina. He returned to Shade Gap in 1998 and two years later moved to Burnt Cabins where he worked for various lumber companies until his retirement in 2011.
He enjoyed spending a great deal of his time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football, his two favorite teams being the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed listening to country music on radio station 92.9. He loved country music and most people who attended Hustontown Volunteer Fire Co. opera would remember him for always reqesting the song “Mountain Dew.” He and his wife also enjoyed going to yard sales on Saturdays and most recently attending Hustontown Senior Center.
He was of the Protestant faith and attended Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, and Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in York, S.C.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Rev. Karey Schaffer officiated. Interment was at Locke’s Valley Cemetery, Shade Gap.
