Environmental Group To Hold Workshop

“The World Outdoors” meeting on Oct. 16
By Rachel Leese

Fall has arrived, and the changing leaves underline how spectacular the scenery is in south-central Pennsylvania. It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy it!

The Fulton County Environmental Action Group’s October workshop, “The World Outdoors,” will explore the natural history and geography of Fulton County, what is special about this area, and what recreational activities are available. Scott Alexander of Fulton County Conservation District and Dave Scamardella of DCNR Bureau of Forestry will be this month’s speakers. The event begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 16, in the community room of the Fulton County Library, 227 North First Street, McConnellsburg.

Books, tour guides and DVDs about outdoors activities are currently on display at the library.

There is no specific, suggested reading for this event, but patrons will find the selected materials helpful for planning hiking, biking, fishing or canoeing trips in the area for this fall or next year. Some great memoirs, including Bill Bryson’s hilarious “A Walk in the Woods,” are available for armchair adventures on cold days.

Attendees will have an opportunity after the presentation to meet members of local outdoors clubs, learn more about their activities, and sign up for upcoming events.

Groups interested in participating should e-mail FCenvironment@gmail.com or phone 717-485-5327, Ext. 5, with information about the group by October 14. Space is limited. Event details, news and environmental information can always be found on the Fulton County Environmental Action Group’s Facebook page. The library is handicappedaccessible with plenty of free parking.
