Leirwyn L. Montague Neelyton, 88
Leirwyn LaVan Montague, 88, Neelyton, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born October 22, 1924, in Burnt Cabins, Dublin Township, he was the son of the late LaVan and Annie (Robinson) Montague. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Fogal March 10, 1951, in Frederick, Md. His wife survives at their home.
He is survived by a son, Vincent Montague and wife April of Chambersburg; and grandchildren: Annie, David and Daniel Montague, all of Chambersburg; two close friends: Dotti Montague Geckle of Blacklog and Maureen Miller of Neelyton.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vanny, and a grandson, Curtis Montague.
He was a member of Neelyton Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Neelyton, and served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and Sunday school superintendent. He will be remembered as a dedicated Christian by his family and friends.
He attended Chambersburg High School and was a 1943 graduate of Orbisonia High School. He was also a graduate of Chambersburg Business College.
He retired from employment as a custodian with the Southern Huntingdon County School District after 25 years of service. He and his wife were also the owners of the post office and general store in Neelyton for 50 consecutive years.
He was known as “Uncle Hank” to a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 6, at Neelyton Pine Grove Presbyterian Church. Rev. Alice Meloy will officiate.
