Sofie’s Suds and Sweets is a carwash and bake sale being held at All Things Automotive in McConnellsburg Saturday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for baby Sophie Heinbaugh, daughter of Edward and Becky Heinbaugh Jr. Sofie has been in Hershey Medical Center since birth and is now five months old. Tristan Gelvin, Hunter Horton, Greg Barnett and Greg Ramsey spent the weekend in Oswego, N.Y., salmon fishing.

Household hint: Winter protection. Cold weatherr can be hard on fruit trees, especially young ones. To help them make it through the winter, apply four inches of mulch in late fall after the ground has frozen. The mulch keeps the soil from alternately freezing and thawing and it also reduces the loss of soil moisture.
