Tonoloway Service Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church, the first organized church in Fulton County, will hold its annual service at 2 p.m., Sunday October 6. The church is located on Thompson Road, two miles north of Hancock. The Sharon Mennonite Bible School Choir will provide the a cappella music. The newly released Volume II of the Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War will be available at that time.

Concert Sharon Mennonite Choir will hold a concert Sunday, October 13, at 7 p.m., at Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown. Further information or directions may be obtained by calling 814-685-3910.

Missions Conference A missions conference will be held October 6 at 6:30 p.m., and October 7-9, at 7 p.m. at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 140 McGoverns Lane, Mc- Connellsburg. Speakers will be John Sasser, The Faran Family and Chris War.

Women’s Conference Rehoboth New Life will host a women’s conference October 11 and 12, 2013, with guest speaker Donna Williams of EPIC Ministries, Houston, Texas, and guest worship leader Lisa Ritz of Greencastle. Conference will begin Friday, October 11, at 7 p.m. and continue on Saturday, October 12, at 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided by RNL. Revival Revival services will be held October 11 and 12, at 7 p.m., at Bedford Chapel Church, 4570 Flickerville Rd, Warfordsburg. Ministering and music will be presented by Heaven Bound. All are welcome.

Special Services Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene will host special services with Rev. Rick and Sharon Riley from October 6-9. Sunday services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Weekday services will be held at 7 p.m. There will be a carryin fellowship meal directly following the Sunday morning service. The church is located at 5806 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Harrisonville. All are welcome.

RECREATION

Dale Gordon 5K Run The Dale Gordon 5K run/walk will be held Saturday, October 19, at the square in Needmore. There are 12 age/gender categories and medals are awarded in ach category. The money raised is contributed to Fulton County Community Christian School. Harvest Day Cowans Gap State Park will hold a Harvest Day Saturday, October 19, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Activities will include pumpkin carving, seed roasting, hot apple cider, autumn crafts, fall games, nature trail, trek or treat trail and fall foliage walk.

Civil War Military Parade, Medal of Honor Ceremony A parade honoring Civil War hero Dr. James Breathed will be held Saturday, October 12, in Hancock, Md., starting at 1 p.m. on Main Street. At 1:40 p.m. a ceremony will be held bestowing the Confederate Medal of Honor on Dr. Breathed, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hancock.

Christmas Bazaar A Christmas bazaar will be held Friday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, three miles west of Needmore. Sponsored by the ladies group.There will be homemade soups, sandwiches, cakes, baked goods, pies, etc. More information may be obtained by calling 717-573-2567.

Puppen Meister At FFFF Fulton County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the Puppen Meister will be returning to this year’s 40th annual Fulton Fall Folk Festival at the alumni building in McConnellsburg. The Puppen Meister will be doing multiple marionette/puppet shows throughout each of the 3-day event and will be featuring children’s activities and games in addition to the popular 20 to 30 minute shows. Children’s activities and games include T-shirt spin art and face painting. Admission is free. Show times are Friday, noon to 2p.m.; 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Saturday, 11 am., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; and Sunday 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Game/Movie Night Game/movie night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center October 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are welcome to come and join in the games. There are card games, dominos, Scrabble or play the shuffleboard. All are welcome to bring a game. Light refreshments are welcomed such as chips, dip, cookies, cheese, crackers, etc. A movie will be shown for those who like to just sit and watch a movie and eat popcorn. X Card Shoots Fulton County Pistol & Rifle Club X card shoots will run every Friday night until November 22. Kitchen will be open.

Fight Like A Girl Benefit The fifth annual Fight Like a Girl cancer benefit luncheon will be October 5, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church Life Center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and program starts at 11 a.m. A catered lunch will be served. Silent auction items and raffles will be available to raise funds for three local persons with their struggles. This year’s recipients are Mary Barnhart, Kathy Hendershot and Johnathan Farling. Tickets are $15 each or $75 for a table of 6 seats. Door tickets will be limited so reserve now. Casino/Outlets Trip A Sands Casino and Outlets trip is planned to Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday, November 2. The bus will leave the VFW at 6 a.m. Cost is $40, which includes $30 free slot voucher plus $5 food voucher. There are 16 restaurants and 24 outlets (Coach, Under Armor, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Corningware, Dress Barn, Van Huesen, Izod, etc.) Make reservations with Linda Lynch at 717-552-5422 or bring money to VFW. Parenting Courses McConnellsburg United Presbyterian

Church and Fulton County Family Partnership are offering a series of free parenting groups open to the community October 10 and 24, November 7 and 21 and December 5, at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Childcare provided. Benefit Visit Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Chambersburg October 12, 2013, to help raise money to benefit Lisa House Arnold in her fight against leukemia. When visiting Hoss’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you must present a flyer that has Lisa’s group number benefit on it. The flyers can be picked up at the following businesses: Cutchall’s in Fort Littleton, Hustontown Country Market, Hustontown Library and Post Office, Lincoln Way Pizza and Designs and Styles Hair Salon in McConnellsburg, Community State Bank, Waterfall Post Office, and Newman’s Store in Waterfall, and the Wells Tannery Post Office.

Love’s Closet Moving Love’s Closet is moving to the lower level of the H&R Block building, rear of 416 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. Some items will be available outside the new location Saturday, October 5. Love’s Closet will officially open on November 2.

CROP Walk Help fight hunger and poverty all over the world by joining the 29th annual Fulton County CROP Walk. This year’s event will be held at Cowans Gap State Park Sunday, October 6, at 2 p.m. Contact Patty Hall at 814-599- 7756 for more information.

Free Flu Immunizations Free flu immunizations for Fulton County residents will be held November 8 at McConnellsburg Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; November 12 at Warfordsburg Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and November 12 at Hustontown Senior Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: October 14 and 28, November 11, December 9, January 13 and 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support are also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, it is held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Veterans Assistance Dan McIntyre, assistant state service office of Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at McConnellsburg VFW to assist veterans with service-connected disability claims. First Friday Lunch First Friday Lunch Deals will be held Friday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, across from the courthouse. First Fridays are an outreach meal provided by McConnellsburg and Cito United Methodist churches on the first Friday of each month. Dine-in or carryout. Cost is free and donations are accepted. Turkey Dinner Shade Gap Fire Co. auxiliary will hold its annual turkey dinner Saturday, November 9, at 4 p.m. at the auxiliary building. Cost is adults $9; children 5-10, $4.50 and under 5 are free. Takeouts available. Proceeds benefit Shade gap Fire Co. auxiliary.

Pancake Breakfast A pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, October 5, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Fair Ridge Assembly of God ministry center, located behind the church. Menu will be pancakes and sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, egg casseroles, assorted juices and coffee. Donations will be accepted. Democratic Dinner The Fulton County Democratic fall dinner will be held at Needmore Firehall Saturday, October 12, at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from committee members.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

REUNIONS

Shoemaker/Weller Reunion The Shoemaker/Weller family will hold its ninth annual family reunion of the late Jacob Shoemaker and Goldie Weller Shoemaker family on Saturday, October 5, at Camp Harding, Pectonville, in Pavilion #2. Social hour will be held at noon with meal at 1 p.m. Bring a hot or cold dish or dessert. Chicken, table settings and drinks will be provided.

FULTON FALL FOLK FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES

Breakfast Buffet Cito United Methodist Church will serve a breakfast buffet Saturday, October 19, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Cito Fellowship Hall located at 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. The buffet-style breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, chipped beef gravy, toast, orange juice and coffee. No charge. Donations accepted.

FFFF at Pleasant Ridge Campground Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Homemade soup, coffee, baked goods, Scentsy products and yard sales.

FFFF Parade Registration Parade registration forms for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival parade are due by September 30. Entrants must preregister. Yard Sale/Flea Market A yard sale and flea market will be held Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Rehobeth New Life Church, Rt. 522 in Needmore, next to firehall. Proceeds benefit ReNewing Hope Ministries Ladies Recovery Center.

Breakfast Fulton County Community Christian School Boosters club will serve an old-fashioned country breakfast Saturday, October 19, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy, home fries, biscuits, juice and coffee. Price is by donation. The school is located along Rt. 522 in Needmore.

HAVFCO Festival Activities Activities at Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. during the Fulton Fall Folk Festival are: Friday, October 19, 5 p.m. – roast beef dinner; Saturday, October 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – all-you-can-eat homemade slippery potpie; Saturday, October 20, 6 p.m. – open stage; Sunday, October 21, 11 a.m. – all-you-can-eat buffet. Car Show A car show will be held Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Needmore Bible Church, 6939 Great Cove Road, Needmore. Open to all antiques, hot rods, customs, classics, trucks and motorcycles. There will also be a concession stand, bake sale, music, door prizes and more. Judging is at 1:30 p.m. and trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit Fulton County Community Christian School. MEETINGS

Historical Society Fall Meeting The annual fall meeting of Fulton County Historical Society will be held October 12, at 7 p.m., in the courtroom of Fulton County Courthouse. Guest speaker is Ross Hetrick, a historical interpreter of Thaddeus Stevens, who was thought to be the most powerful congressman during and after the Civil War, a fearless champion of freedom and equality and the savior of public education in Pennsylvania. During his lifetime, his fame rivaled Abraham Lincoln’s.

Library Teen Board Meeting Fulton County Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will hold a Halloween costume party Friday, October 18, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., in the community room of Fulton County Library. Teens are asked to bring a covered dish or snack to share. All teens between the ages of 13 and 19 are welcome to attend.

Singles Meeting Knobsville Singles will meet October 14, at 11:30 a.m., at Cowans Gap State Park. Bring a sandwich for lunch. Other food, snacks and drinks will be provided.
