Nhyle D. Hollenshead Mercersburg, 84

Nhyle D. “Shorty” Hollenshead, 84, Mercersburg, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Falling Spring Nursing Center, Chambersburg.

Born January 9, 1929, at Needmore, Pa., he was a son of the late John W. and Vera L. Mellott Hollenshead.

He was a former employee of Letterkenny Army Depot. He worked for 29 years at Mack Trucks Inc. of Hagerstown. Following retirement from Mack he worked at Smith’s Implements of Mercersburg and later at Great Cove Golf Course, McConnellsburg, as a ranger and also at White Tail Ski Resort.

He was a member of Great Cove Golf Course of McConnellsburg, VFW #6241, American Legion Post #517, and Moose Lodge #1790, all of Mercersburg.

He served with the 88th Airborne, U.S. Army, during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Swisher Hollenshead, whom he married September 2, 1961; four children: Pamela J. and husband Carl Lopez of Chambersburg; Tamela W. and husband Ross Smith and Roberta L. Hollenshead, both of Mercersburg; Daniel A. and wife Kristal Hollenshead of Fort Loudon; seven grandchildren and a greatgrandson; siblings: Cloyd Hollenshead of Fayetteville; Ray and wife Jean Hollenshead of Mercersburg; Betty Mae Clever of St. Thomas, and Jean Marie and husband Harry Sowers of Ft. Loudon; and sister-in-law Betty Hollenshead of Fort Loudon.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Hollenshead, and a sister, Fern Hollenshead.

Graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday September 24, at Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon. Pastor Charles Martin officiated.
