Charles H. Cowan Fort Loudon, 84

Charles H. Cowan, 84, Fort Loudon, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born May 14, 1929, in Mercersburg, Pa., the son of the late Daniel and Annie (Atherton) Cowan. He was married to Phyllis Thomas Diffenderfer Cowan on July 5, 1984.

He was a member of Chambersburg Christian and Ministry Church. He worked for the Mercersburg Tannery, retiring in May of 1994.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Cowan of Fort Loudon; seven children: Paul Cowan of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; Brenda (wife of Clarence) Weller of Greencastle; Donna (wife of Larry) Musselman of Mercersburg; Susan Cowan of Mercersburg; Charles E. (husband of Yuko) Cowan of Tokyo, Japan; David (husband of Jodi) Cowan of Copper Code, Texas, and Richard (husband of Candie and son Nery) Diffenderfer of Mc- Connellsburg; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.; and a sister, Joann Custer of Mercersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Annie Cowan; one brother, Leroy Cowan; one daughter, Lori Cowan; one son, Roger Diffenderfer; and one granddaughter, Melony Cowan Roberts.

Funeral services were private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Good Shepard, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
