Lightning Strike Kills Family’s Horse

HOP BOTTOM, Pa. (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania man who lost one of his horses in a lightning storm this week wants to warn others about what his family has learned the hard way.

Richard Williams of Hop Bottom tells WNEP-TV his family’s 15-year-old horse, Lady, was killed as powerful storms went through the area Wednesday night.

He said Lady and another horse, 8-year-old Brave, were cooling off in the storm under their favorite tree when lightning struck. Williams said he learned too late that while many humans survive lightning strikes, it’s almost always fatal in horses.
