Conference “Treasured Trials Conference” with Kerby and Kelli Campbell will be held September 22, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and September 23 and 24, at 7 p.m., at Dublin Mills Community Church. Campbell suffers from a physical condition that causes severe pain daily with no medical cure. Special Services Special services will be held at My Father’s House Ministries September 27-29. Alan Ross from Scotland will be the guest speaker. Quilt Club Retreat Fulton County Quilt Club’s annual retreat will be held September 21, from 9 a.m. to roughly 4 p.m.

Free Airplane Rides EAA Chapter 36 will be giving free airplane rides for youths ages 8-17 at Hagerstown Airport Sunday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parent or guardian must be present to sign forms.

Golf Tournament The 20th annual Fulton County Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament will be played Saturday, September 14, at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg. This year’s tournament benefits the emergency department expansion project. The tournament, which has a shotgun start at 9 a.m., features cash prizes for the winning teams, plenty of games along the way, a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the morning, door prizes and awards. Registration begins at 8 a.m. that morning. The cost per golfer is $80. Golf Tournament A 4-man golf tournament will be held at Great Cove Golf Club September 28 at 8 a.m. Proceeds benefit Fulton County Pony/Colt Baseball Programs. Deadline to register is September 25. X Card Shoots Fulton County Pistol & Rifle Club X card shoots will start Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m. and run every Friday night until November 22. Kitchen will be open.

Soccer Shoot Elks Soccer Shoot will run the whole month of September. Please call Kathy Kendall at 717-485-0221 or 377-3643 to find out when and where a shoot will be running. Boys and girls up to 14 years old can participate in this shoot with a chance to go on to the district, state and national competition.

Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage Saturday, September 28, at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Free admission.

Casino/Outlets Trip A Sands Casino and Outlets trip is planned to Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday, November 2. The bus will leave the VFW at 6 a.m. Cost is $40, which includes $30 free slot voucher plus $5 food voucher. There are 16 restaurants and 24 outlets (Coach, Under Armor, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Corningware, Dress Barn, Van Huesen, Izod, etc.) Make reservations with Linda Lynch at 717-552-5422 or bring money to VFW. Mic Night Open Mic Night will be held Friday, September 20, at Hancock Performing Arts Center, Town Hall, 126 West High Street, Hancock, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and donations accepted. Bus Tour A bus tour will be held Friday, October 18, of northern Fulton, Bedford and Huntingdon counties, including Sinoquipe Scout camp, Russian cemetery in Wood, Railroad and Mining Museum in Robertsdale, lunch at Traditions in Martinsburg, Riddlesburg coke ovens, Keystone Foundry in Hopewell and Oregon Road CCC Camp, which was also a conscientious objectors and German prisoner of war camp. Time permitting, a visit will be made to the abandoned Sideling Hill turnpike tunnel and a South Penn Railroad culvert. Other sites will be discussed. Sponsored by Fulton Historical Society. Cruise-In For a Cause A cruise-in will be held September 21 at Thomas All Things Automotive in McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2013 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County, Mary Barnhart, Kathy Hendershott and Johnathon Farling. Food will be available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. A bake sale is being hosted by Rehoboth New Life. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 35 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift envelope. No alcoholic beverages. Not responsible for accidents. Eat All Winter From Garden A program will be held Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Cost is $10/person or $15/family (money must accompany reservation). To reserve a seat call 717-485-4111. Program presented by Fulton County Master Gardeners. Learn how to plant a garden in the fall and to eat all winter from your garden. Following the workshop will be tour of the Victory Garden.

Food Auction Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor a food auction Saturday, September 21, at 2 p.m. The kitchen will open at noon. Mike Sullivan will be the vendor.

FFFF Parade Registration Parade registration forms for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival parade are due by September 30. Entrants must preregister. 55-ALIVE Driving Class The 55-Alive /Mature Driving classroom refresher class will be offered at Warfordsburg Senior Center September 24 and 25. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by mailing a check payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member), to Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Rd, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Graduates of the class, age 55 and older, will be eligible for the three-year auto insurance discounts. If planning to stay for lunch, following the class, let Cindy know at 294-6020 one day in advance or when registering. There are no tests involved.

Library Story Hour Preschool story hour begins Tuesday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m., at Hustontown Branch Library; Wednesday, September 18, at 10 a.m. at Fulton County Library in McConnellsburg; and Thursday, September 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Needmore Bible Church Community Center. CROP Walk Help fight hunger and poverty all over the world by joining the 29th annual Fulton County CROP Walk. This year’s event will be held at Cowans Gap State Park Sunday, October 6, at 2 p.m. Contact Patty Hall at 814-599- 7756 for more information.

Free New Coats Fulton County Catholic Mission will have free new children’s and gently used children’s and adult coats available Tuesday, October 8, beginning at 9 a.m., at Saint Stephen Catholic Church. Further information may be obtained by calling 485-5917.

Computer Classes Free one-on-one computer classes will be held at Fulton County Library in McConnellsburg, Tuesday, September 17. The classes are taught by Coyle Free Library’s reference librarian and any topic can be chosen. Call the library at 717-485-5327 to register for a half-hour to hour time slot.

Volunteer Day At Cowans Gap Cowans Gap State Park will host a volunteer event September 28 to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Volunteers around the nation pitch in on National Public Lands Day to show appreciation for the nation’s valuable and beautiful public lands. Join park staff and other volunteers for a rewarding day of volunteering at Cowans Gap State Park. Volunteers are needed to assist with trail and day-use area maintenance, litter cleanup, table assembly, gardening, nature center chores and campground cleanup. There may be other projects as well. This event is being held from 9 a.m. to noon with sign-in held at Pavilion #1. Pre-registration for this event is required in order to prepare tools and work assignments. Please register by contacting the park office at 717-485-3948. All participants are invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day with a volunteer appreciation lunch, beginning at noon. During the lunch, the staff of Cowans Gap State Park will honor the dedicated volunteers that have contributed many hours to the park this season. Pre-registration is required for the lunch.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: September 30, October 14 and 28, November 11, December 9, January 13 and 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support are also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Veterans Assistance Dan McIntyre, assistant state service office of Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at McConnellsburg VFW to assist veterans with service-connected disability claims. Homemade jelly, jam and pickles, processed vegetable beef, chicken corn and ham and bean soup and chili by the bowl or by the quart. Spaghetti Dinner Friends of Peggy Claycomb, a local cancer patient, are sponsoring a spaghetti dinner at Saint Stephen Catholic Church in McConnellsburg, Friday, September 20. Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, drinks and dessert will be served at noon and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eat in or carry out. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for child.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Autumn Tea Fulton County Historical Social will hold an autumn tea Saturday, September 14, at 11:30 a.m. at the Fulton House to benefit the museum. Ken Keebaugh will be the speaker. Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold its last ice cream festival for the year Saturday, September 14. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. The festival will begin at 4 p.m.

End Of Summer Fest And end of summer fest will be held September 14, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Shade Gap picnic grounds. A car show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon with crafts and antiques, breakfast and a chicken barbecue. Sponsored by Shade Gap Area Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Clippinger Reunion The descendants of Wilson M. Hustontown/FR Alumni Banquet Hustontown/FR Alumni banquet will be held October 5, 2013, at Hustontown Firehall. All graduates of either high school are invited to attend. DeShong Reunion The Harry N. and Arishia DeShong reunion will be held September 15 at Goldie’s house on Goldie Road. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and covered dish and enjoy the day with your relatives. There will also be special music.

MEETINGS

Change Of Meeting Date Fulton County Farm Women will hold their September meeting Thursday, September 12, at 6:15 p.m. at Fulton County Medical Center’s activity room. Games will be played with the residents. Each member is asked to bring a gift for the prizes.

Library Teen Board Meeting Fulton County Library Teen Advisory Board will meet at the Pump Station Road entrance to the old Pennsylvania Turnpike for a bike ride Sunday, September 29, at 3 p.m. Please bring a bicycle as well as a flashlight or headlamp to help navigate the tunnels. Registration/ liability forms will be available and will require parental signature for events held during the 2013-14 school year. All teens between ages 13 and 19 are welcome to attend.

Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet Tuesday, September 24, at 11 a.m., in Fulton County Library community room. Bring items for a silent auction. Early arrivals to help set up tables are appreciated. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5736. Guests are welcome.
