September Is Senior Center Month
As part of a month long celebration, the local senior centers are planning some special activities during the month of September to celebrate Senior Center Month.
Hustontown Senior Center ahs a very busy calendar for Senior Center Month. On September 11, as part of Patriot Day, seniors there will be thanking the local emergency personnel. On September 18 they will hold a canned food drive to donate to needy families or to the local food bank. If anyone knows of anyone who could use some, help please contact the senior center at 987-3770. On September 19 at 11 a.m., a health fair by Patti Hess and Fulton County Medical Center will be held. They will be checking blood pressures, providing glucose and cholesterol screenings and pulse/oxygen checks. On September 24, a “You Gave, Now Save” program will be held at 10:30 am. This will make seniors aware of the different programs that are available to seniors to help them with expenses.
Warfordsburg Senior Center has a Wii bowling league so anyone interested in playing in the new league should sign up September 10. The league starts the following Monday. On September 14 the monthly open mic night takes place at the center from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Food is available for purchase. Come see how entertaining the neighbors can be. On September 27, a Western-themed social night will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the center. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. The McConnellsburg Senior Center will start celebrating Senior Center Month on September 3 by asking participants to complete a poster that says what they believe about seniors. Participants, community members and family members are encouraged to come to the center, write down what they believe and help fill the center with positive comments on growing old. McConnellsburg seniors will be celebrating the peanut on September 13 with special peanuts being served as a snack that day. On September 17 a nutrition class for seniors will be held at 10 a.m. and on September 20 at 11 a.m. April Imler will come to the center to talk about asthma. Anyone wishing to join the center for any of these activities and/or lunch, call the center at 485- 5613 to sign up.
Each center in the county will have a special Senior Center Month luncheon September 25 to recognize their “experts at living well.” The lunch that day will be chicken cordon bleu, scalloped potatoes, lima beans, dinner roll, chocolate pudding with whipped cream.
