W. Pa. Environmentalists Rally For Clean Water
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Kayakers and environmentalists are rallying in Pittsburgh to demand tougher clean water rules.
The Saturday rally at Point State Park includes members of the Sierra Club, Clean Water Action, the Center for Coalfield Justice and Three Rivers Waterkeeper. The groups say billions of pounds of toxic waste get dumped into rivers and lakes every year, including arsenic, lead and cadmium. The park is located at the junction of the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela rivers.
The rally is part of a national campaign to highlight the fact that the federal government is currently accepting citizen comments on a proposal to update and strengthen water pollution rules.
