Cowans Gap Activities

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park would like to announce the following upcoming public programs:

Friday, September 6: 8:30 p.m. – Campfire Tales. Join at the amphitheater campfire to hear tales of local legends and some folklore about the area. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Saturday, September 7: 6:30 p.m. – Mighty Monarchs. Learn about the fascinating migrations of these delicate creatures. Find out why some years you see more than others and how they manage to survive a move across the continent. Meet at the park amphitheater.

8:30 p.m.: Flying Predators! – Raptors are some of the most accurate hunters in the forest and have some of the longest migration routes of any creatures in the world. Find out what makes them such amazing hunters and how far they will migrate to for the winter. Meet at the park amphitheater.

Sunday, September 8: National Grandparents Day – 2 p.m. – Grandparents Walk. It’s National Grandparents Day. Why not bring them to the park for a leisurely stroll around the lake? Meet the park naturalist at the interpretive center.

6 p. m. – Tracks and Traces Walk. Meet at the interpretive center to set out into the park to learn ways to see the wildlife that live around the park. While we may not see the animals themselves, we can look for the evidence they left behind to prove they have been here.
