After two postponements due to rain, the championship game for the Greater Hancock Church Softball League was finally played last Wednesday, August 21, at Widmeyer Park in Hancock. The matchup between St. Thomas Episcopal Church, which has been undefeated in two seasons, and Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church was played under threatening skies and one 10-minute delay of game due to lightning.

Both teams were anxious to complete the season, and the spectators' anticipation was rewarded with an exciting, lowscoring game. Both teams were pretty much evenly matched, and the 6-4 win by St. Thomas was hard fought.

With the season over, closing prayer was given by Rev. Edward Blank of Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, praising God and thanking Him for all His blessings, among them the opportunity to enjoy fellowship and fun with other Christian churches in the area. The trophy was awarded to the winning team by Linda Bolden, who together with her husband, Doug ,was responsible for the formation of the league.

The other churches of the league are St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Orchard Ridge First Church of God, and the Church of Latter-Day Saints, all of Hancock. This was the second year for the league, and other churches in the area that would be interested in becoming a part of the league are invited to contact one of the pastors or Linda Bolden. A flyer will be posted sometime in April or May with information about a pre-startup meeting for all team managers.
