Fall Church Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning on September 8 with Sunday School for all ages starting at 9:30 a.m., fellowship time at 10:30 a.m., and worship starting at 11 a.m. All are invited to join in during those times. Homecoming Rehobeth Cemetery Assoc.’s annual homecoming services will be held at Rehobeth United Methodist Church Sunday, September 1, at 2 p.m. Pastor Frank Kocek will be in charge with Rev. Russell Hoffman, pastor of area Christian churches, as guest speaker. Music for the afternoon will be provided by Winston Manning, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Debbie Miller of Mercersburg. Quilt Club Retreat Fulton County Quilt Club’s annual retreat will be held September 21, from 9 a.m. to roughly 4 p.m.

Golf Tournament The 20th annual Fulton County Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament will be played Saturday, September 14, at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg. This year’s tournament benefits the emergency department expansion project. The tournament, which has a shotgun start at 9 a.m., features cash prizes for the winning teams, plenty of games along the way, a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the morning, door prizes and awards. Registration begins at 8 a.m. that morning. The cost per golfer is $80. Cruise-In An old school motor sports cruise-in will be held at the Alumni Community Building Sunday, September 8, starting at 2 p.m. Free registration for all motorcycles, gokarts, street bikes, muscle cars, trucks, race cars, racing mowers, dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, derby cars and children’s bikes. Train Display Cumberland Valley Railroad Club will have a display of their trains running Sunday, September 8, starting at 2 p.m., in the alumni community gym. Come and see the display and have an opportunity to get a chance to win a train set.

Soccer Shoot Elks Soccer Shoot will run the whole month of September. Please call Kathy Kendall at 717-485-0221 or 377-3643 to find out when and where a shoot will be running. Boys and girls up to 14 years old can participate in this shoot with a chance to go on to the district, state and national competition.

Casino/Outlets Trip A Sands Casino and Outlets trip is planned to Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday, November 2. The bus will leave the VFW at 6 a.m. Cost is $40, which includes $30 free slot voucher plus $5 food voucher. There are 16 restaurants and four outlets (Coach, Under Armor, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Corningware, Dress Barn, Van Huesen, Izod, etc.) Make reservations with Linda Lynch at 717-552-5422 or bring money to VFW. Senior Center Social Night On August 30 Warfordsburg Senior Center will hold a Western-themed social night for folks over 60. Come dressed in Western attire and enjoy the food, dancing or just listening to the music furnished by Barb and Forrest, the DJs for the evening. Bring a covered dish, meat is furnished. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Bus Tour A bus tour will be held Friday, October 18, of northern Fulton, Bedford and Huntingdon counties, including Sinoquipe Scout camp, Russian cemetery in Wood, Railroad and Mining Museum in Robertsdale, lunch at Traditions in Martinsburg, Riddlesburg coke ovens, Keystone Foundry in Hopewell and Oregon Road CCC Camp, which was also a conscientious objectors and German prisoner of war camp. Time permitting, a visit will be made to the abandoned Sideling Hill turnpike tunnel and a South Penn Railroad culvert. Other sites will be discussed. Sponsored by Fulton Historical Society. Cruise-In For a Cause A cruise-in will be held September 21 at Thomas All Things Automotive in McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2013 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County, Mary Barnhart, Kathy Hendershott and Johnathon Farling. Food will be available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. A bake sale is being hosted by Rehoboth New Life. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 35 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift envelope. No alcoholic beverages. Not responsible for accidents. Benefit Ride A benefit ride in memory of Vincent Carbaugh

Groundhog Hunt Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. is sponsoring a groundhog hunt. Registration will be Friday, August 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the hunt will be held Saturday, August 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pick up rules at the time of registration. Cost is $10 per person.


Eat All Winter From Garden A program will be held Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Cost is $10/person or $15/family (money must accompany reservation). To reserve a seat call 717-485-4111. Program presented by Fulton County Master Gardeners. Learn how to plant a garden in the fall and to eat all winter from your garden. Following the workshop will be tour of the Victory Garden.

Gun Raffle A fall gun raffle will be held Saturday, September 7, at Breezewood Firehall. Proceeds benefit Everett and Breezewood fire companies. Twenty guns and cash prizes, free food and beverage from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. First drawing will be held at 2 p.m. Tickets available at True Value, Everett; Everett Legion; Sagittarius Beauty Salon, Everett; any Breezewood or Everett fireman. Tickets also available at the door. Need not be present to win. Cost is $10 per ticket.

Love’s Closet Closed Love’s Closet is closed for September due to church construction and will be moving to a new location hopefully by October. Watch for more information.

Hunter/Trapper Course A hunter/trapper education course will be held Saturday, September 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Click on education/hunter education class schedule. Class is limited to 55 students. Bring bag lunch Saturday. Veterans Affairs Office Closed The Veterans Affairs office will not be open Wednesday, September 11, due to required annual training of all county veterans affairs directors statewide.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: September 9 and 30, October 14 and 28, November 11, December 9, January 13 and 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support are also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Vaccines Offered Pennsylvania Department of Health will offer vaccines to uninsured and underinsured persons every Thursday by appointment only at Fulton County Medical Center, 214 Peach Orchard Road, McConnellsburg. Benefit Dinner A benefit dinner for Tristan Douglas, a Southern Fulton High School cancer patient, will be held September 7, at Needmore Bible Church, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Menu will be lasagna, salad, garlic bread, drink and dessert. Cost is adults $8, children 5-12, $5 and under 5 are free. There will also be a silent auction. Modern Woodmen of America will match up to $500 of the funds raised, but more money is hoped to be raised as they are having financial burdens with Tristan going back and forth to Childrens Hospital for treatments. Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold its last ice cream festival for the year Saturday, September 14. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. The festival will begin at 4 p.m.

End Of Summer Fest And end of summer fest will be held September 14, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Shade Gap picnic grounds. A car show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon with crafts and antiques, breakfast and a chicken barbecue. Sponsored by Shade Gap Area Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Ebenezer Church Picnic The Ebenezer Church picnic will be held September 7. A social hour will be held at 11 a.m. and a covered-dish luncheon will be held at noon. Bruce Maxwell from Breezewood Truckers Ministry will be guest speaker after the meal. The Maxwell Family will provide music. Paperware and drinks will be provided. Clippinger Reunion The descendants of Wilson M. Clippinger will hold their 38th reunion Saturday, September 14, at Forbes Road Lions Club Park beginning at 1 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring place settings, a covered dish, and games. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. with games and family fun following the meal.


Hustontown/FR Alumni Banquet Hustontown/FR Alumni banquet will be held October 5, 2013, at Hustontown Firehall. All graduates of either high school are invited to attend. Medical Center Auxiliary Meeting Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will meet in the LTC activity room Tuesday, September 3, at 10 a.m. The auxiliary’s cookbook, “Sixty Five Years of Fulton County Cooking,” is now available at The Yankee Mercantile at 15856 Great Cove Road, Tickle My Fancy on Lincoln Way West, and the hospital Corner Gift Shop. The cookbook has more than 500 recipes and sells for $15.
