Fall Church Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning on September 8 with Sunday School for all ages starting at 9:30 a.m., fellowship time at 10:30 a.m., and worship starting at 11 a.m. All are invited to join in during those times. Men’s Conference A one-day “Stepping Up” men’s conference will be held at Mercersburg Mennonite Church, 10060 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, Saturday, September 14. More information may be obtained by calling 717-360-9702.

RECREATION

Quilt Club Retreat Fulton County Quilt Club’s annual retreat will be held September 21, from 9 a.m. to roughly 4 p.m.

Golf Tournament The 20th annual Fulton County Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament will be played Saturday, September 14, at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg. This year’s tournament benefits the emergency department expansion project. The tournament, which has a shotgun start at 9 a.m., features cash prizes for the winning teams, plenty of games along the way, a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the morning, door prizes and awards. Registration begins at 8 a.m. that morning. The cost per golfer is $80. Open Mic Night Needmore Fire Co. will hold an open mic night August 24, September 28, October 6 and November 23. Kitchen opens at 4 p.m. and open mic from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Casino/Outlets Trip A Sands Casino and Outlets trip is planned to Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday, November 2. The bus will leave the VFW at 6 a.m. Cost is $40, which includes $30 free slot voucher plus $5 food voucher. There are 16 restaurants and four outlets (Coach, Under Armor, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Corningware, Dress Barn, Van Huesen, Izod, etc.) Make reservations with Linda Lynch at 717-552-5422 or bring money to VFW. No refunds. First ones to pay get seats.

Senior Center Social Night On August 30 Warfordsburg Senior Center will hold a Western-themed social night for folks over 60. Come dressed in Western attire and enjoy the food, dancing or just listening to the music furnished by Barb and Forrest, the DJs for the evening. Bring a covered dish, meat is furnished. Bus Tour A bus tour will be held Friday, October 18, of northern Fulton, Bedford and Huntingdon counties, including Sinoquipe Scout camp, Russian cemetery in Wood, Railroad and Mining Museum in Robertsdale, lunch at Traditions in Martinsburg, Riddlesburg coke ovens, Keystone Foundry in Hopewell and Oregon Road CCC Camp, which was also a conscientious objectors and German prisoner of war camp. Time permitting, a visit will be made to the abandoned Sideling Hill turnpike tunnel and a South Penn Railroad culvert. Other sites will be discussed. Sponsored by Fulton Historical Society. Cost is $70 and $65 for society members and includes Bollman bus, lunch and all fees and gratuities. For reservations and details call John at 328-9279.

Cruise-In For a Cause A cruise-in will be held September 21 at Thomas All Things Automotive in McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2013 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County, Mary Barnhart, Kathy Hendershott and Johnathon Farling. Food will be available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. A bake sale is being hosted by Rehoboth New Life. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 35 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift envelope. No alcoholic beverages. Not responsible for accidents. Benefit Ride A benefit ride in memory of Vincent Carbaugh will be held Sunday, September 8. Starting location is McConnellsburg American Legion at 1 p.m. to the Mountain House. Groundhog Hunt Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. is sponsoring a groundhog hunt. Registration will be Friday, August 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the hunt will be held Saturday, August 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pick up rules at the time of registration. Cost is $10 per person.

Eat All Winter From Garden A program will be held Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Cost is $10/person or $15/family (money must accompany reservation). To reserve a seat call 717-485-4111. Program presented by Fulton County Master Gardeners. Learn how to plant a garden in the fall and to eat all winter from your garden. Following the workshop will be tour of the Victory Garden.

Gun Raffle A fall gun raffle will be held Saturday, September 7, at Breezewood Firehall. Proceeds benefit Everett and Breezewood fire companies. Twenty guns and cash prizes, free food and beverage from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. First drawing will be held at 2 p.m. Tickets available at True Value, Everett; Everett Legion; Sagittarius Beauty Salon, Everett; any Breezewood or Everett fireman. Tickets also available at the door. Need not be present to win. Cost is $10 per ticket.

Love’s Closet Love’s Closet will be held the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. July-October, at 117 West Market Street, in the alley behind the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. Clothing, shoes, cleaning supplies, toiletries, toys and more absolutely free. Sponsored by United Methodist Churches of McConnellsburg.

Hunter/Trapper Course A hunter/trapper education course will be held Saturday, September 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Click on education/hunter education class schedule. Class is limited to 55 students. Bring bag lunch Saturday. HEALTH

Veterans Affairs Office Closed The Veterans Affairs office will not be open Wednesday, September 11, due to required annual training of all county veterans affairs directors statewide.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Nutrition Awareness Program A community-based nutrition education program in collaboration with Penn State which provides nutrition education through monthly and individual classes is offered to help those interested in nutrition and safe food practices. McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg.

Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages every Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., at Community State Bank. Call for cost and to register at 717-485- 4492.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group Alzheimer’s/ dementia support group meets the third Tuesday monthly at 6:30 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center, Pearl Room. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-6108.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: August 26, September 9 and 30, October 14 and 28, November 11, December 9, January 13 and 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support is also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Vaccines Offered Pennsylvania Department of Health will offer vaccines to uninsured and underinsured persons every Thursday by appointment only at Fulton County Medical Center, 214 Peach Orchard Road, McConnellsburg. FOOD AND DINING

Benefit Dinner A benefit dinner for Tristan Douglas, a Southern Fulton High School cancer patient, will be held September 7, at Needmore Bible Church, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Menu will be lasagna, salad, garlic bread, drink and dessert. Cost is adults $8, children 5-12, $5 and under 5 are free. There will also be a silent auction. Modern Woodmen of America will match up to $500 of the funds raised, but more money is hoped to be raised as they are having financial burdens with Tristan going back and forth to Childrens Hospital for treatments. Festival Center United Methodist Church will hold its last ice cream festival of the year, Saturday, August 24, at 4 p.m. Turkey dinners will be available with filling, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, coleslaw or applesauce. Also available are soup, sandwiches, pie, cake and ice cream. The Blessed Friends will be an added attraction with their beautiful songs of yesteryear and well-known hymns of faith.The church is located one-half mile off Route 655 on Waterfall Road or five miles north of Hustontown on Dublin Mills Road.

End Of Summer Fest And end of summer fest will be held September 14, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Shade Gap picnic grounds. A car show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon with crafts and antiques, breakfast and a chicken barbecue. Sponsored by Shade Gap Area Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Ebenezer Church Picnic The Ebenezer Church picnic will be held September 7. A social hour will be held at 11 a.m. and a covered-dish luncheon will be held at noon. Bruce Maxwell from Breezewood Truckers Ministry will be guest speaker after the meal. The Maxwell Family will provide music. Paperware and drinks will be provided. Everyone is welcome to come and share in the fellowship and renew old acquaintances. If bad weather, held inside. The church is located at 226 Ebenezer Church Road, Needmore.

Grandma Ann’s Peach Pie Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee will sponsor a Grandma Ann’s peach pie sale Saturday, August 24. Pies can be picked up in the social hall after 9 a.m. Costs are plain $8 and crumb $9. To order call 485- 5917.

Infantry Regiment Reunion Picnic The 10th annual 314th Infantry Regiment reunion picnic will be held in Memorial Park, Chambersburg, Saturday, August 24, at noon. Meal will be served at 3 p.m. A headcount is needed by August 15. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 9-16 and children under 8 are free. Chicken BBQ/Open Stage A chicken barbecue and open stage will beheld at Hustontown Firehall Saturday, August 24. Chicken will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and open stage begins at 6 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m.

Ice Cream Social An ice cream social will be held at Clear Ridge Community Building August 22, at 4 p.m. Served will be hot dogs, sodas and snacks.

Legion Picnic American Legion picnic will be held August 25. Tickets are on sale at the Post. Come and enjoy the fun and good food. Music will be by a DJ.

REUNIONS

Reunion The Kuhn, Clevenger and Kendle reunion will be held Sunday, September 15, at the Upton Community Cen- ter at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish and drinks for your family. Don’t forget some items for the auction.

FR Class Of 1966 Reunion Forbes Road Class of 1966 will hold a class reunion Saturday, September 14, at Hustontown Firehall. Social hour is at 5 p.m. followed by a meal at 6 p.m. For more information and RSVP call 485-4639.

DeShong Reunion The Harry N. and Arishia DeShong reunion will be held September 15 at Goldie’s house on Goldie Road. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and covered dish and enjoy the day with your relatives. There will also be special music.

Hendershot Reunion The annual Hendershot reunion will be held Sunday, August 25, at Buck Valley Park. Games for children. Lunch will begin about 1 pm. Everyone welcome.

MEETINGS

Medical Center Auxiliary Meeting Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will meet in the LTC activity room Tuesday, September 3, at 10 a.m. The auxiliary’s cookbook, “Sixty Five Years of Fulton County Cooking,” is now available at The Yankee Mercantile at 15856 Great Cove Road, Tickle My Fancy on Lincoln Way West, and the hospital Corner Gift Shop. The cookbook has more than 500 recipes and sells for $15.

Library Teen Board Meeting Fulton County Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will meet at McConnellsburg Lions Club Park at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 25. All teens between the ages of 13 and 19 are welcome. Participation is free, and liability forms will be available for parent’s signatures for activities held during the 2013-14 school year. Teens should bring a ball glove, a bagged lunch and their favorite movie as the group will return to the library later in the evening to watch a movie. Drinks will be provided.

Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m., at Cowans Gap State Park for the annual picnic. Bring a covered dish to share and items for a Chinese bingo. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5736.
