Big Cove Tannery Man Arrested

A Big Cove Tannery man was arrested in Franklin County last week following a traffic stop for speeding.

State police in Chambersburg said they stopped 36-year-old Chad Michael Harmon at 13622 Buchanan Trail West in Peters Township on Wednesday, August 7. During the stop, a search of Harmon’s vehicle was conducted and resulted in charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and the use or possession of drug paraphernalia being filed.

Driver Cited

A driver has been cited for failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic as a result of a single-vehicle accident along Lincoln Highway.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg reported the eastbound tractortrailer struck a guiderail along the southern berm in Licking Creek Township on Monday, August 12. The driver, who was not identified by state police, was not aware of the 11:15 a.m. collision and continued eastbound until contacted be state police troopers.

Police Investigate Identity Theft

State police in McConnellsburg investigated a case of identity theft that occurred at the conclusion of last September.

A 52-year-old male from Needmore told investigators he permitted a friend to remain at his Rockwell Road residence while he was away for a prolonged period of time. When the victim returned he discovered his friend had used his personal information to procure various services at the Belfast Township residence. The incident resulted in a loss of income for the victim, who added the suspect left the home before he returned.

Man Accused Of Disorderly Conduct

Thirty-eight-year-old Mc- Connellsburg resident Christopher Lee Swope has been accused of disorderly conduct by state police. Swope allegedly created a loud disturbance on Tuesday, August 6, while on McGowan’s Lane in Dublin Township. Charges in connection with the 11:20 p.m. incident have been filed through Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne.

Disabled Vehicle Struck

A disabled vehicle partially parked along Lincoln Highway was struck by a passing motorist on Monday, August 12.

According to state police, A 2004 Kenworth operated by Brunos O. Aleobua, 53, of Detroit, Mich., was parked halfway in the westbound lane of the Brush Creek Township roadway after having engine problems. Thomas P. Kemerer, 37, of New Stanton, attempted to pass the the tractor-trailer but struck the trailer with his 2008 Isuzu at 3:47 p.m.

Kemerer suffered minor injuries but did not require EMS transport. He was wearing a seat belt and will be charged with failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic.

Drug Paraphernalia Found

Charges are pending further investigation by Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg into a case of drug paraphernalia. According to reports, state police were dispatched to a location along Lincoln Way East in Peters Township to assist EMS on Friday, August 9. Upon arriving at 12:55 p.m., police alleged Justin Lee Smalley, 35, of Harrisonville, was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

McConnellsburg Woman Cited In Crash

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg cited a McConnellsburg woman in connection with a three-vehicle accident along Molly Pitcher Highway on Saturday, August 10.

Reports indicate Patricia A. Murray, 61, of McConnellsburg, turned left onto Pine Road at 11:55 a.m. without yielding right of way to a northbound 2004 Hyundai Sonata driven by Stephanie R. Blubaugh, 37, from Clear Spring, Md. Blubaugh’s car struck the passenger side of Murray’s 2008 Kia Spectra.

Police said following impact, Murray’s vehicle struck the left front end of a 1994 Honda Accord operated by 39-year-old Kyle E. Creager, Waynesboro. All three drivers escaped harm and were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash in Antrim Township.

Local Man Cited For Assault

Fifty-three-year-old Warren Lee Seville, of McConnellsburg, has been charged with aggravated assault after another man was sent to the hospital on Friday, August 2, with severe injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said they were contacted between 8 p.m. and 8:14 p.m. regarding information that Seville was allegedly swinging at and trying to punch a 76-year-old McConnellsburg man at 261 Brick Road in Ayr Township. The victim was transported to Fulton County Medical Center before being transferred by helicopter to Johnstown Memorial.

Child Struck

A McConnellsburg man is accused of striking a 3-yearold girl from Breezewood during an incident at 119 West Walnut Street, Apt. A, McConnellsburg. State police in McConnellsburg alleged Robert E. Thompson, 63, struck the girl several times with a shoehorn on Sunday, August 11, at 2 p.m. The girl suffered injuries during the assault. Charges against Thompson are filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Mailboxes Damaged

Seven mailboxes located on Cito, Back Run and Great Cove roads in Ayr Township were damaged between 10 p.m. on August 10 and 6 a.m. on August 11. Anyone having further information pertinent to this case of criminal mischief should contact state police Trooper Garner at 717-485-3131.

Prescription Pills Stolen

A full bottle of prescription pills was stolen from the Cardinal Glenn Apartments in Ayr Township between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5. Victim is a 42- year- old female from Mc- Connellsburg. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call state police Trooper Garner at 717-485-3131.

Teen Flown To Altoona

A 17-year-old Waterfall girl was flown by helicopter to Altoona Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 11, for treatment of injuries suffered during a single-vehicle accident along Battleridge Road.

According to state police, the teenage girl was travelling eastbound when she attempted to slow down suddenly at 5:22 p.m. The girl’s 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier travelled onto the berm where it struck a utility pole, spun back across the Dublin Township roadway and struck a tree.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and suffered major injuries. She will be cited for driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds.

State police were assisted on the scene by Hustontown Volunteer Fire Co., EMS and Lilley’s Towing.

D.C. Man Charged With DUI

Fifty-year-old Washington, D.C., resident Roosevelt Washington Jr. has been arrested by state police in Mc- Connellsburg for driving under the influence of alcohol.

State police reported Washington was pulled over along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 on Wednesday, August 7, for committing a traffic violation at 3:51 p.m. Washington was determined to be driving his 2004 Cadillac under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest before being transported to Fulton County Medical Center for a blood alcohol test. Charges are filed through Magisterial District Judge Tamela Heming.

Wallet Missing

A 26-year-old female from Lemasters, Pa., informed state police investigators her wallet was either stolen or lost in the area of Sheetz in McConnellsburg at noon on Friday, August 9. Anyone with additional information related to the missing wallet should call state police Trooper Miller at 717-485- 3131.

Schellsburg Man Injured

A Schellsburg, Pa., man suffered moderate injuries on Monday, August 5, when his eastbound 1994 Chevrolet Suburban lost the tread on a left rear tire.

According to state police, the SUV operated by Thomas B. Evans spun onto the northern berm of Interstate 70 at 12:20 p.m. and struck an embankment. The vehicle overturned onto its roof, and a utility trailer it was hauling became detached at some point during the accident in Brush Creek Township.

Evans, 50, was wearing a seat belt and required medical transport for treatment of injuries.

Fire Reported On Interstate

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg responded to a fire that destroyed the cabin interior of a 2004 Freightliner Conventional on Tuesday, August 6.

Reports indicate Rodney E. Monn, 47, of Shippensburg, was travelling westbound through Brush Creek Township when he noticed smoke in the cabin of his tractor-trailer. Flames shot out of the dash of the tractor, causing Monn to pull onto the northern berm at 6:45 p.m. Monn managed to extinguish the flames and was not injured.

Counterfeit Bill Used At Giant

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg are continuing their investigation into the use of a counterfeit bill at Giant Food Store on Tuesday, August 6. Reports indicate Rhonda Rene Hoffman, 45, of Warfordsburg, is suspected of attempting to pay for gasoline with the $50 counterfeit bill at 8:08 p.m. The bill was denied by the cashier, police added.

Car Travels Through Fence

A northbound 1997 Honda Accord travelled off Great Cove Road on Monday, August 5, and struck a traffic sign before running through a high tensile fence surrounding a Dublin Township pasture.

According to state police reports, the car driven by Richard W. Rohrer, 26, of McVeytown, continued through the pasture at 7:40 a.m., through the other side of the fence and came to a rest in a field at the intersection of Waterfall Road. Rohrer was not wearing a seat belt but was not harmed. He will be cited for failing to drive on roadways laned for traffic.

DUI Arrest

Twenty-year- old Ryan Matthew Little, address not provided, was arrested by state police troopers for driving under the influence during a traffic stop on the 7000 block of Pleasant Ridge Road last week.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said Little was pulled over for committing multiple traffic violations on Sunday, August 4, at 2:43 a.m. Charges against Little have been filed through Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne.

Man Jailed Following Domestic Dispute

A 35-year- old McConnellsburg man was jailed for simple assault on Friday, August 9, following a domestic dispute at 49 Hillside Estates in Todd Township.

William Carl Drenning is accused of assaulting a 62- year-old female, a 64-year-old male and an 8-year-old boy during the 11 a.m. altercation. Drenning was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott, who remanded him to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Marijuana Plant Found

A 3-1/2 foot marijuana plant was found growing be- hind a residence located at 49 Hillside Estates in Todd Township. State police said a trooper made the discovery on Saturday, August 10, at 3:30 p.m. The investigation is continuing in the case.

Drill Stolen

A cordless Irwin drill and two batteries belonging to a 49-year- old Warfordsburg man were stolen from 514 Coon Hollow Road in Bethel Township on July 28 at 5:30 a.m. Anyone having additional information concerning this theft is urged to call state police Trooper Piasecki at 717-485-3131.

Bedford County Man Injured

A Clearville, Pa., man sustained moderate injuries when his 2013 Harley-Davidson Dyna Switchback was struck from the left by a white-tailed deer. State police said 40-year-old Patrick C. Mearkle was travelling eastbound on McKees Gap Road when the crash occurred on Tuesday, August 6, at 8: 09 a. m. The impact caused Mearkle to lose control of his motorcycle, which ran off the Union Township roadway. Mearkle was wearing a helmet. He was transported via Needmore Ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
