Cowans Gap Activities
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park would like to announce the following upcoming public programs:
Thursday, August 22: 1 p.m. – Pennsylvania Natural Symbols. Meet at the interpretive center to set out on a hike up the One Mile Trail to discover natives that symbolize our state. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle.
Friday, August 23: 8:30 p.m. – Creatures of Cowans Gap. Do you know what lives in the bottom of the lake and appears only once a year? Did you know there are highways in the trees? Meet at the amphitheater to learn some of the interesting facts and lore about the critters you may run into at Cowans Gap.
Saturday, August 24: 3 p. m. – Natures Trivial Game. Think you know a lot about nature? Come to the interpretive center to see how your knowledge matches up against other park-goers! Bring a team, play on your own, or just come to watch the fun!
6:30 p.m. – Wetland Wonders Walk. Meet at the interpretive center to set out on a stroll to our wetland area. Learn who lives in these swampy areas and find out why these areas are critical to a healthy forest and lake environment.
8:30 p.m. – Campfire. Cowans Gap History – Stop by the amphitheater campfire ring to learn how Cowans Gap came to be the wonderful park it is today. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on while you discover the history of the area and relax by the fire.
