Fall Church Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning on September 8 with Sunday School for all ages starting at 9:30 a.m., fellowship time at 10:30 a.m., and worship starting at 11 a.m. All are invited to join in during those times. God’s Love On Wheels God’s Love on Wheels will be held Friday, August 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the former Richards Auto Sales parking lot. “Glow” will offer music, worship, food, prayer availability, kids’ games, Love’s Closet items, door prize drawings and much more. G.L.O.W. is an outreach ministry of McConnellsburg and Cito United Methodist churches. Free of charge.

Free Community Concert A free community benefit concert will be held Friday, August 16, at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Bible Church (formerly Heartland Hall) and Saturday, August 17, at 7 p.m., at Forbes Road High School. Proceeds benefit Teagan Imler, a local 6-year-old battling muscular dystrophy; Raymond Hillenbrand of Everett, diagnosed with a rare form of large B-cell lymphoma; and the Robin Feight Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Back-To-School Prayer Night There will be a back-toschool prayer night August 20, 2013. The program will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Forbes Road High School auditorium. Everyone is welcome.

Quilt Club Retreat Fulton County Quilt Club’s annual retreat will be held September 21, from 9 a.m. to roughly 4 p.m.

FR Soccer Registration Forbes Road AYSO soccer registration will be held August 19, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Forbes Road Lions Club pavillion.

Soccer Camp McConnellsburg High School boys soccer camp will be held at Lions Club Park August 5-7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., for grades 9-12 only.

Golf Tournament The 20th annual Fulton County Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament will be played Saturday, September 14, at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg. This year’s tournament benefits the emergency department expansion project. The tournament, which has a shotgun start at 9 a.m., features cash prizes for the winning teams, plenty of games along the way, a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the morning, door prizes and awards. Registration begins at 8 a.m. that morning. The cost per golfer is $80. Open Mic Night Needmore Fire Co. will hold an open mic night August 23, September 27, October 25 and November 22. Kitchen opens at 4 p.m. and open mic from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Cruise-In For A Cure A cruise-in will be held September 21 at Thomas All Things Automotive in McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2013 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County. Food will be available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. A bake sale is being hosted by Rehoboth New Life. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 35 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift envelope. No alcoholic beverages. Benefit Ride A benefit ride in memory of Vincent Carbaugh will be held Sunday, September 8. Starting location is McConnellsburg American Legion at 1 p.m. to the Mountain House. Fellowship For Singles On Friday, August 16, Warfordsburg Senior Center will host a fellowship for singles from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is for single folks 60 and older to get together and remember old times, tell stories, compare ideas or just sit and enjoy the company of folks like yourself. Groundhog Hunt Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. is sponsoring a groundhog hunt. Registration will be Friday, August 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the hunt will be held Saturday, August 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pick up rules at the time of registration. Cost is $10 per person.

Lifeguard Trainng Lifeguard training by the American Red Cross will be held at Three Springs community pool August 19-23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To register call Audrey Hall at 717- 377-3707. Must be 15 years old or older.

Eat All Winter From Garden A program will be held Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Cost is $10/person or $15/family (money must accompany reservation). To reserve a seat call 717-485-4111. Program presented by Fulton County Master Gardeners. Learn how to plant a garden in the fall and to eat all winter from your garden. Following the workshop will be tour of the Victory Garden.

Back To School Clothing Giveaway including hygiene products and household items. Infant thru adults. Gun Raffle A fall gun raffle will be held Saturday, September 7, at Breezewood Firehall. Proceeds benefit Everett and Breezewood fire companies. Twenty guns and cash prizes, free food and beverage from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. First drawing will be held at 2 p.m. Tickets available at True Value, Everett; Everett Legion; Sagittarius Beauty Salon, Everett; any Breezewood or Everett fireman. Tickets also available at the door. Need not be present to win. Cost is $10 per ticket.

Dairy Basket Auction A dairy basket will be auctioned off during the 4-H/FFA livestock sale Saturday, August 17, at the fairgrounds. Proceeds benefit the Fulton County 4-H Dairy Club. Items include a cooler, ice cream maker, butter, cheese and original artwork by Linda Mosemann.

Hunter/Trapper Course A hunter/trapper education course will be held Saturday, September 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Click on education/hunter education class schedule. Class is limited to 55 students. Bring bag lunch Saturday. Veterans Assistance Dan McIntyre, assistant state service office of Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at McConnellsburg VFW to assist veterans with service-connected disability claims. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Nutrition Awareness Program A community-based nutrition education program in collaboration with Penn State which provides nutrition education through monthly and individual classes is offered to help those interested in nutrition and safe food practices. McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg.

Blood Drive A Red Cross blood drive will be held at Warfordsburg Faith Center, August 15, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group Alzheimer’s/ dementia support group meets the third Tuesday monthly at 6:30 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center, Pearl Room. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-6108.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: August 26, September 9 and 30, October 14 and 28, November 11, December 9, January 13 and 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support is also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Vaccines Offered Pennsylvania Department of Health will offer vaccines to uninsured and underinsured persons every Thursday by appointment only at Fulton County Medical Center, 214 Peach Orchard Road, McConnellsburg. FOOD AND DINING

Benefit Dinner A benefit dinner for Tristan Douglas, a Southern Fulton High School cancer patient, will be held September 7, at Needmore Bible Church, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Menu will be lasagna, salad, garlic bread, drink and dessert. Cost is adults $8, children 5-12, $5 and under 5 are free. There will also be a silent auction. Modern Woodmen of America will match up to $500 of the funds raised, but more money is hoped to be raised as they are having financial burdens with Tristan going back and forth to Childrens Hospital for treatments. Buck Valley Festival Buck Valley festival will be held at Buck Valley Park Saturday, August 17, rain or shine. I-Pod shuffle and other school item giveaways. Music by Marv Ashby, High Octane and “Bluegrass In Overdrive.” Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and games and bingo at 6 p.m.

Festival Center United Methodist Church will hold its last ice cream festival of the year, Saturday, August 24, at 4 p.m. Turkey dinners will be available with filling, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, coleslaw or applesauce. Also available are soup, sandwiches, pie, cake and ice cream. The Blessed Friends will be an added attraction with their beautiful songs of yesteryear and well-known hymns of faith.The church is located one-half mile off Route 655 on Waterfall Road or five miles north of Hustontown on Dublin Mills Road.

Not Going Back To School Picnic Fulton PASR “I’m Not Going Back To School” picnic will be held at McConnellsburg Lions Club picnic pavilion Wednesday, August 14. A raffle will be held at 11 a.m. to help with the scholarship fund. Please bring something for this raffle. The covered dish lunch will be held at noon. Also please bring something to share at this meal. Invite other school retirees. End Of Summer Fest And end of summer fest will be held September 14, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Shade Gap picnic grounds. A car show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon with crafts and antiques, breakfast and a chicken barbecue. Sponsored by Shade Gap Area Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Chicken BBQ Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Sunday, August 18, at 11 a.m. Menu will be half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce, cake and roll.

Ebenezer Church Picnic The Ebenezer Church picnic will be held September 7. A social hour will be held at 11 a.m. and a covered-dish luncheon will be held at noon. Bruce Maxwell from Breezewood Truckers Ministry will be guest speaker after the meal. The Maxwell Family will provide music. Paperware and drinks will be provided. Everyone is welcome to come and share in the fellowship and renew old acquaintances. If bad weather, held inside. The church is located at 226 Ebenezer Church Road, Needmore.

Grandma Ann’s Peach Pie Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee will sponsor a Grandma Ann’s peach pie sale Saturday, August 24. Pies can be picked up in the social hall after 9 a.m. Costs are plain $8 and crumb $9. To order call 485- 5917.

Infantry Regiment Reunion Picnic The 10th annual 314th Infantry Regiment reunion picnic will be held in Memorial Park, Chambersburg, Saturday, August 24, at noon. Meal will be served at 3 p.m. A headcount is needed by August 15. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 9-16 and children under 8 are free. Chicken BBQ/Open Stage A chicken barbecue and open stage will beheld at Hustontown Firehall Saturday, August 24. Chicken will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and open stage begins at 6 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m.

Ice Cream Social An ice cream social will be held at Clear Ridge Community Building August 22, at 4 p.m. Served will be hot dogs, sodas and snacks.

Legion Picnic American Legion picnic will be held August 25. Tickets are on sale at the Post. Come and enjoy the fun and good food. Music will be by a DJ.

REUNIONS

Fix Reunion The annual Fix reunion will be held Sunday, August 18, at Lions Club Park at noon. Please bring an item for the siilent auction and a covered dish.

MHS Class of 2003 Reunion McConnellsburg High School Class of 2003 will hold its 10-year class reunion Saturday, August 17, at the old Pepple’s Auction Barn beginning at 5 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Bring your family and a potluck item to share.
