Ceremony For New Pa. Nature Preserve
PENN LAKE PARK, Pa. (AP)– A new 390 acre nature preserve in northeastern Pennsylvania will expand existing state lands.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources held a ceremony Friday for the Harry and Mary Goeringer Preserve, which connects state game lands from Bear Creek to Nescopeck State Park.
Carolyn Goeringer Basler inherited the property and worked with The Nature Conservancy to preserve it. The state conservation department paid Basler $643,000 for the property, about half of its assessed value. Money for the purchase came from the Keystone Conservation Fund.
