Meadow Grounds Lake Group Incorporates
The Friends of Meadow Grounds Lake announced this week that it has incorporated and is seeking donations to help fund its mission to restore the popular Ayr Township fishing and boating destination.
Organized in the spring following the state Fish & Boat Commission’s February announcement that the 204-acre lake would be drained due to deficiencies in the Roaring Run dam, the Friends are actively gathering information and promoting awareness of what needs to be done to repair, restore and restock the lake.
The lake’s drawdown began March 4.
The Fish & Boat Commission has estimated the cost of restoring the lake at $4 to $5 million and says it will take as long as four to five years to complete the work once it’s started.
In June, spokesmen for the Friends told the “News” that they hoped to incorporate and set up a board of directors by the end of July.
With a 12-member board led by President Anthony D’Anna now in place, the Friends are working harder than ever to get water back in Meadow Grounds Lake.
The board meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month at Community State Bank, 415 Fulton Drive, in McConnellsburg. Meetings are open to the public, and persons committed to the lake’s restoration are encouraged to attend. Individuals are also needed to serve on various committees.
Donations should be mailed to Friends of Meadow Grounds Lake, P.O. Box 84, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
