Pearl Truax Hauman celebrated her 90th birthday Saturday, July 26, with 103 family members and guests present at the fellowship hall of St. Thomas United Methodist Church.
Pearl has listened to children recite Bible verses at the Released Time Program for more than 30 years. Released Time Program representatives attended the party. She has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. Nancy Younker, worthy matron of Fulton Chapter #519, presented Pearl with her 50-year certificate from the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania. Members also attended from that organization.
Pearl attends Ebenezer United Methodist Church near Harrisonville and Ebenezer folks attended. Guests attended from as far away as Florida, Boston, Connecticut, Winchester, Va., and Johnstown. Pearl’s sister, Norma Cass, presented a reading entitled “Tidbits about Pearl.” Her grandson, Bruce “Trip” Hauman III, played his guitar and sang “Shenandoah” to his grandmother. Annabelle Myers played a special piano arrangement, and Emily Wheaton sang a special musical selection. Bruce Hauman Jr. and Christopher Hauman lit the three-tiered birthday cake and all present sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
Pastor William Baer from Ebenezer Church spoke to Pearl and gave the blessing. Delicious refreshments were provided to the guests by Linda Hoover, Carol Morton Tebo, Betty Jane Lee, Peggy Lee Williams and Mary Kathryn Smith. Pearl received 120 birthday cards through the mail and at the party.
It was a day recorded in Pearl’s life book of memories.
