Joan L. Miller Harrisonville, 70

Joan L. Miller, 70, Harrisonville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her most.

Born January 14, 1943, in Harrisonville, she was the daughter of the late William Burden and Bertha Viola (Mellott) DeShong. She was the wife of Max W. Miller, whom she married on April 6, 1963.

She was a graduate of Green Hill High School with the class of 1961.

She gave her life to the Lord at age 24 and was a long-standing member of Independent Holiness Church, Harrisonville. She was a homemaker, caring and loving mother. She was a great and encouraging friend to many. She loved visiting, singing and playing the accordion, especially to the homebound, bedridden and terminally ill, reading and crocheting before her own health problems wouldn’t allow her to, but she continued to send cards, talk, listen and pray for others. She enjoyed many of the simple things in life.

In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by a son, Max, and daughter- in- law Shelley (Berkstresser) Miller Jr., Harrisonville; daughters: Tammy L. Miller and Marcy A. Miller, Harrisonville; four grandchildren: Max W. Miller III, Harrisonville; Emily Fisher, McConnellsburg; Jared De-Shong, Harrisonville; and Damian Pluta, Harrisonville; and a sister, Ruth Ann Mellott, Harrisonville.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doreen Miller; and an infant grandson, Tyler DeShong.

Services were held at Independent Holiness Church, Harrisonville, at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24. Pastor Toby Mellott officiated. Interment was a Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene Cemetery, Harrisonville.
