Possible Lightning Strike Clears Neighborhood
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (AP) – Residents of a southcentral Pennsylvania neighborhood have been evacuated as a precaution after emergency officials got word that a fuel tank might have been hit by lightning.
Cumberland County dispatch center coordinator Michelle Parsons says firefighters were sent to the scene in Hampden Township as a violent thunderstorm came through the area Friday afternoon.
She tells The Patriot- News of Harrisburg that the firefighters saw smoke as they approached and hosing down the scene.
A high school has been opened as an evacuation center for those who need it.
