Game Commission Catches Wandering Bear
ERIE, Pa. (AP) – The Pennsylvania Game Commission has tranquilized a young black bear seen wandering the streets of Erie, which is believed to be the same animal spotted in nearby suburbs earlier in the week.
Wildlife Conservation Officer Mike Girosky tells the Erie Times-News the bear will be released in state game lands.
The bear was estimated at 125 pounds and Girosky says this is the time of year that mother bears shoo their young out into the wild. The younger bears often don’t know enough to avoid humans and are often found wandering in more populated areas.
Officials had reports of a bear wandering in neighboring Millcreek Township on Monday night before they caught up with the bear in a tree in Erie Tuesday afternoon.
