Douglas L. Whitsel Jr. Blairs Mills, 27

Douglas Lee Whitsel Jr., 27, Blairs Mills, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, as a result of an automobile accident in Cromwell Township.

Born July 19, 1985, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Douglas Lee Whitsel Sr. of Three Springs and Gloria (Glunt) Newman of Mount Union. He was the stepson of Richard Newman of Mount Union.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance, Carrie Long of Blairs Mills; a stepgrandfather, Richard K. Newman of Mount Union; three sisters: Heather Freet and husband Jason of Fannettsburg; Jodi Kuhns of Reedsville and Margie Price of Mount Union; a brother, Ryan Newman, and fiance Kelly Slicker, Hermitage; and a number of aunts and uncles.

He had previously worked as a welder at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, and was last employed as a technician at 522 RV Repair Center, Shirleysburg.

An avid gun collector, he was a member of the National Rifle Association. He liked to ride four-wheelers and especially loved his dog, “Jordan.”

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, at Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Rev. Gordon Ross officiated. Interment was made at Mount Union Cemetery.
