Harold E. Berkstresser Harrisonville, 73
Harold Eugene Berkstresser, 73, Harrisonville, Pa., died Wednesday afternoon, June 19, 2013, at the VA Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born September 28, 1939, in Hustontown, he was the son of Kathryn (Seville) Berkstresser of Hustontown and the late Herbert Berkstresser. He was married to Martha Parrish on December 31, 1989. She survives at home.
He is survived by the following children: Jeffrey, Jerry and Katherin Berkstresser, all of Harrisonville; and Hal Berkstresser, Carlisle; Harlan Berkstresser, Wells Tannery; Hayden Berkstresser, Woodvale, Pa.; and Yvette Miller, Hustontown; and a stepson, MSgt Clarence Harada, Fort Knox, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister: Harvey “Earl” Berkstresser, McConnellsburg; Herbert Berkstresser, Hustontown; and June Bennett, Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Simpson, and a granddaughter, Lacy.
He was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 22 years service. He was stationed around the world with two tours of duty in Vietnam. His specialty field was airborne navigation. He was a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and belonged to the American Legion and VFW in McConnellsburg.
After his military career, he worked at Cowan’s Gap State Park.
He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He was a loyal supporter and donor for the Camp Cadet program.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2013, at M R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor Marcus Abernethy officiated. Interment will be at Hustontown Cemetery.
Fulton Honor Guard provided military services.
