Corbett Hits Budget Homestretch With Lots At Stake
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Pennsylvania’s state budget process is heading into its final weeks with a number of moving parts. And there’s plenty at stake for Gov. Tom Corbett.
The House has passed a budget and a liquor store privatization bill, while the Senate has approved major transportation legislation.
Corbett wants all three, along with changes to the large publicsector pensions. He’s facing a reelection race next year.
He’s also determined to get the budget passed before the state government’s fiscal year ends on June 30.
June is often the time when high-stakes deals get done in Harrisburg. How things work out could have political repercussions for years to come.
