Sorority News

Xi Eta Lambda, McConnellsburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, started the second quarter of the year ushering and handing out programs at the McConnellsburg High School’s musical “Willy Wonka.”

A Founder’s Day banquet, hosted by Preceptor Gamma Phi, was held at Town Hill Bed and Breakfast. All three sororities from the county met for a delicious buffet dinner and enjoyed current fashion tips and coupons from a Christopher and Banks representative. The woman of the year award was given in memory of Marie Shimer. Marie was an active member of the sorority and held various offices over the past 33 years. The 2013- 14 theme, “Light Up Your Life,” was announced.

In May, a mother/daughter banquet was held at the Hustontown Firehall. Everyone enjoyed the buffet dinner, poems and games.

Service projects included an Easter dinner, potted flower, subscription to The Fulton County News and Mother’s Day gifts for our “adopted grandmother.” The sorority also helped place and gather up luminaries for the county’s Relay For Life.

The Diamond Circle Ritual, commemorating 60 years in Beta Sigma Phi, was held for Donna Sain of McConnellsburg. Donna was instrumental in starting the McConnellsburg chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was presented a teapot, Diamond Circle pin and yellow rose.

Scholarships from the sorority were awarded to Sydney Kerlin from Mc- Connellsburg and Corrina Parsons from Forbes Road.
