Strawberry Festival Next Weekend
The 23nd annual Strawberry Festival returns to the county courthouse campus June 14 and 15. As always there will be lots of strawberry treats featured under the chamber tent: shortcake, pies, cheese cake, waffles and ice cream. Many other delicious food items can also be found at various booth locations along West Market Street.
Featured performances this year include an old-fashioned band concert by the Mercersburg Community Band on Friday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m., from the band shell on the courthouse lawn. The band is composed of musicians from the Franklin and Fulton County areas.
Also, on Saturday there will be a first-time featured performance by contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Michelle Layton. Her concert begins at 12:30 p.m., on the courthouse lawn. Michelle’s music ministry is fueled by her desire to draw others to a deeper faith in Jesus Christ. Her beautiful voice moves audiences to enjoy both her versions of secular and Christian contemporary music. Michelle will present a mix of her original songs as well as cover songs from various contemporary artists.
Earlier on Saturday, the second annual Strawberry Stampede 5K Run and Walk begins at 9 a.m., in the courthouse square.
Besides food vendors, West Market Street presents a wide variety of vendors and displays for all to explore.
The baby and toddler contest winners are to be announced on Saturday afternoon. The kindergarten and first-grade coloring contest winners will be on display. Also the annual recipe contest winners are to be announced. Another contest winner to be determined is the strawberry capping champion.
The official starting time for the festival each day is 10 a.m.
