Drivers Urged To Use Caution In Foggy Conditions

PennDOT urged motorists to use caution when driving in foggy conditions, especially during early morning commuting times.

PennDOT data shows that from 2008 through 2012, there were 202 crashes on roadways in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset counties related to foggy conditions.

Motorists are urged to increase following distance, decrease speed and turn off cruise control in these conditions because fog can quickly thicken and reduce visibility. In addition, drivers should ensure vehicle headlights are on low beams, signal their intentions early and avoid stopping quickly to improve visibility to other motorists.

Drivers should avoid distractions and make sure passengers are wearing their seat belts.
