Pictured above is Mack Hawkins presenting donations to Megan, a Bedford County Humane Society employee, and “Sparky,” a resident. Mack Hawkins is an 11th-grade student at Forbes Road High School. As a member of the National Honory Society, Mack chose the Bedford County Humane Society as his senior project. He and his family are the proud owners of two dogs from BCHS. He chose the shelter because “the animals cannot speak for themselves, and we need to take responsibility for their care.”

Hawkins went doorto door asking for donations (monetary, food or anything else that was on the shelter’s wish list). A relative of Mack’s also put a jar out at a hospital in New Jersey. His goal was to raise $1,000. He surpassed his goal by raising $1,048. He also collected food, treats, toys and cleaning items for the shelter.

Hawkins expressed his appreciation to all of the generous people who made donations.
