Cowans Gap Activities

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park would like to announce the following upcoming public programs:

Monday, June 10: 10:30 a.m., Birding By the Box. Come learn about cavitynesting birds on this gentle walk in the park. Along the way peek inside the park’s nesting boxes to see if anyone’s using them. Meet at the park office.

Noon: See the Park Series. Every Monday this summer set out from the nature center to explore a different trail in the park. This week we will be heading down the Plessinger Trail, a stream- side walk through our wetland area. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle.

Thursday, June 13: 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Lakeside Tales. Preschool-aged children are invited to join the naturalist at the amphitheater for a story or two overlooking the lake. Make a craft and perhaps play a game.

Friday June 14: 7 p.m., Cicada, Cicada! It’s been 17 years and we are about to be infested. Join at the nature center to find out about these noisy bugs that will be visiting our area this summer.

8:30 p.m.: Night Lights. Be part of this interactive program about those little critters that light up the night sky ... fireflies! Discover what makes them glow and be part of the fun as we discover who is the menace in the lightening bug world. Program will be held at the amphitheater.

Saturday, June 15: 1 p.m, Nature Photography Scavenger Hunt. Set out from the amphitheater on a digital scavenger hunt around the lake. Can you catch a shot of everything on the list? Cameras will be available for loan if needed.
