UPC Summer Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, South Second and Maple streets, McConnellsburg, announces its return to summer schedule on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Rev. Evan R. Bible School Join the fun at Wrangler Roundup! Vacation Bible School at Warfordsburg Presbyterian will include music, games, snacks, activities and most importantly, Bible lessons. Bible School Vacation Bible School is scheduled at Center United Methodist Church the week of June 17 through June 21, from 6:30 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. The theme of the week is “Kingdom Rock.” All are welcome.

Special Program Cito and McConnellsburg United Methodist churches present “Smoke On The Mountain” Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at Cito; Saturday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at McConnellsburg; and Sunday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at McConnell Park. Rain location is McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. Admission is free and offering will be received.

River Oaks Helpline A Christian crisis counseling/prayer phone line is now available. Caring and compassionate Christian volunteers are available from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily to listen, pray with you and help to find solutions for the challenges you are facing. RECREATION

Yard Sale North End Garden Club will hold a yard sale June 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at 248 Locust Drive to support local community service projects.

Strawberry Festival The 23rd annual Strawberry Festival is on schedule for Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15. Activities begin at 10 a.m. each day. Good food and fellowship each day. Friday evening features an old-fashioned band concert performed by the Mercersburg Community Band on the courthouse lawn at 7:30 p.m. Saturday morning kicks off with the 5K Strawberry Stampede run/walk at 9 a.m. At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday a musical concert presented by singer, songwriter and recording artist Michelle Lynn Layton. Also featured are beautiful baby and toddler contest, strawberry recipe contest, strawberry capping contest and strawberry coloring contest for kindergarten and first graders. Car Show Calvary Independent Baptist Church will hold a car show Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at 140 McGoverns Lane, McConnellsburg. Civil War Living History Company D 3rd Maryland Volunteer Infantry, U.S., will be encamped in “the meadow” beside Gordon’s Cruise-In in Needmore June 8 and 9. Come experience the daily life and drill of the Civil War soldier. More information may be obtained by callin 717-294-3307.

5-K Stilt Walk Gather family and friends and walk alongside Brian Snyder on Saturday, June 8, as he makes a 5K trek on stilts at Giant Steps Walk for A Wish to benefit Make-AWish Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia. The 5K run will take place at 11 a.m., with the walk beginning at 1 p.m., from Juniata Crossing to Juniata Trading Co., Route 30. Registration is $15 and $20 day of the event. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Motorcycle Ride Broad Top Community Center is holding its annual motorcycle ride June 2. Registration will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. There will be a ride 100 miles through beautiful central PA. Senior Center Social Night Warfordsburg Senior Center will hold a social May 31 for seniors 60 and over to come and enjoy the evening of food, dancing or just listening to the music. The music will provided by Barb and Forrest from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8 p.m., there will be a candlelight memorial program. Bring a covered dish, meat is furnished. Majorette Camp Majorette camp will be held June 22-25 at Southern Fulton Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Cost is $80 per child. If interested contact Amy Spade Elias at amyrenee02@yahoo.com by June 7.

Motorcycle Run A motorcycle run through scenic Fulton County with Pastor Sam Childers will be held June 15 and 16, sponsored by Evangel Assembly of God. Registration at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments and drinks. Pastor Sam will speak at 11:45 a.m. and ride leaves church at noon. Cost is $20 per bike. VFW Election A special election will be held at the next meeting of VFW Post 655 on June 6 to fill a vacancy in the office of post jr. vice commander. Meeting time is 6 p.m.

Hunter/Trapper Course Fulton County Hunter Trapper Education course will be held Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. From Mc- Connellsburg take Rt. 522 north about 3/4 mile. Turn right onto McGovern’s Lane and proceed approximately 2/10 mile to club. Preregistration is required. Click yes on PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us, click on education/hunter education class schedule. Class limit is 55 students. This is the first of three traditional courses for the county. Civil War Book Available Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War Volume I is now available. This book contains 189 photos and 308 veterans in 158 pages. Cost is $26 plus $4. postage. The book has many veterans of prominent Fulton County families. These families all had multiple members in the Civil War. All proceeds from the sale of these books are for the maintenance and preservation of the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church.

Community Victory Garden The Fulton County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to participate in the second-year community Victory Garden within McConnellsburg Borough Wednesdays, to October 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Second Street behind the McConnellsburg Firehall. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages every Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., at Community State Bank. Call for cost and to register at 717-485- 4492.

Nutrition Awareness Program A community-based nutrition education program in collaboration with Penn State which provides nutrition education through monthly and individual classes is offered to help those interested in nutrition and safe food practices. Health Fair A health fair summer kickoff will be held June 3, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center campus. For more information call 485-6115.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. FOOD AND DINING

Festival St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will hold a festival June 22, at 4 p.m. Menu includes homemade ice cream, soups, pies and cakes. Served will be barbecues, hamburgers and hot dogs. Entertainment provided by Silver Creek band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you are looking for an evening of great food, wonderful fellowship and relaxation, please attend. The church is located five miles south of McConnellsburg on Rt. 522.

Festival Siloam United Methodist Church will hold a festival June 15 at 4 p.m. Menu will consist of homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, pie, etc. The church is located south on Rt. 655 from Harrisonville. Music by Country Christians.

Ice Cream Festival Center United Methodist Church will hold its first ice cream festival of the year Saturday, June 1, beginning at 4 p.m. Turkey dinners will be available with filling, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, applesauce or coleslaw. Also available will be sandwiches, soup, pie, cake and ice cream. The church is located one-half mile off Rt. 655, five miles north of Hustontown on Dublin Mills Road. Also mark calendars for July 13 and August 24 for festivals coming up.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

MEETINGS

Singles Meeting Knobsville Singles will meet Monday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Cherie Fix. Car pool from there to Hidden Valley Restaurant in Shade Gap.

FCMC Auxilitary Meeting Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will meet in the LTC activity room Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m. Following the meeting at noon, an appreciation luncheon will be held in the LTC dining room for the auxiliary members and volunteers.

Scout Meeting Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the McConnellsburg Presbyterian Church, McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age. Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

PARSE Meeting Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) has a 9:00 a.m. breakfast meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at McConnellsburg FOVA (VFW). Democratic Meetings The Fulton County Democratic Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Democratic Headquarters building at 123 South Second Street in McConnellsburg. Library Teen Board Meeting Fulton County Library Teen Advisory Board will meet Friday, May 31, in the library community room at 5 p.m. Following their monthly meeting, the teens will participate in games, crafts and other fun activities.

BINGO

Bingo Ashlyn’s Angels will hold a cash bingo June 2, 2013, at McConnellsburg Volunteer Firehall. Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Light refreshment will be available to purchase. Advance tickets $20, at the door $25. Payouts will be determined by number of tickets sold. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund that will be distributed to all three county schools. Souders Reunion The family of Claude B. Souders reunion will be held June 9 at Cito United Methodist fellowship hall. Lunch will begin at 1 p.m.
