Urges Support Of Memorial Day Programs
To The Editor,
Memorial Day will be celebrated this year on Monday, May 27. There are events throughout the county at various cemeteries honoring those who gave the ultimate price, so each of us could enjoy our freedoms in this wonderful country of ours.
I am requesting the public to consider participating in one or more event that day. A small parade winds its way through the streets of McConnellsburg to pay tribute to those veterans buried in the four small cemeteries in town. They travel from the Presbyterian church, up 522 North, taking a right onto Route 30 east, up Third Street, left at Walnut, then back to the courthouse for the ceremony. The colorguard, McConnellsburg band and Scout groups walk in this parade with little to no one on the street supporting them. This year, I would ask support from the community to stand throughout the parade route. Let’s give a visible sign to the younger generation walking in this parade that honoring the fallen heroes does matter and is worth a little of our time on a holiday devoted to their sacrifice. Please be at the curb by 11 a.m.
With gratitude to so many,
Girl Scout Leader
