Lois B. Murrell Lynchburg, Va., 92
She was the wife of the late William “Bill” McKendree Murrell III. She was born in Ebensburg, Pa., on December 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Lee Cramer Brown and the late Amanda Catherine Roberts Brown.
She met Bill, the love of her life, in the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., where she volunteered. He was recovering from wounds received during World War II, while a POW. They spent the next 54 years together
She was a devoted member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Wiggington Road. She was a master seamstress, wonderful cook, an adoring mother and grandmother and an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.
She is survived by four daughters: Catherine V. Murrell and friend, Denis Lison of Forest; Mary M. Jones and husband Donald of Lynchburg; Elizabeth D. Murrell of Forest and Frances M. Grinnell and husband Dan of Gainesville, Va.; five grandchildren: Kenneth Lipscomb II of Forest; Valerie Somma and husband, Steve of Forest; Lisa R. Murrell of Lynchburg; Amanda Smith and husband Tony of Lynchburg; and Daniel Grinnell of Gainesville; and five greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William M. Murrell IV; one granddaughter, Sharon Ober; and two sisters: Esther Lees and Janet Becker.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Floyd Cabell officiated. Entombment was at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice. Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, was in charge of arrangements.
