New Records Set At Hershey Track Meet

Kiana Purvis Kiana Purvis Fifty- seven athletes ages 9-14 attended the sixth annual Hershey track meet, sponsored by McConnellsburg High School track team Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the local track. Eight new records were broken by the following athletes:

Kiana Purvis, daughter of Kia Purvis of Chambersburg, set three new records in the 9-10-yearold girls division – standing long jump, 50-meter dash and the 100-meter dash.

Taysean Foster, son of Kasie Harlow of Mc- Connellsburg and Gary Foster of Shippensburg, set two records in the 9- 10-year-old boys division – softball throw and the 200-meter dash.

Taryn Parks, daughter of Trevor and Amber Parks of Greencastle, set a new meet record in the 200-meter dash with a time of :31.54. Taryn also won the 800-meter run with a time of 3:03.73.

Kellyn Perry, daughter of Sheri and Kelly Perry of McConnellsburg, set a new meet record in the 13-14-year- old girls 800- meter run. Kellyn also won the 200-meter dash.

Trey Swope Trey Swope Trey Swope, son of Ellen and Cloyd Swope of McConnellsburg, set a new meet record in the 13-14-year-old boys softball throw with a throw of feet, 10 inches.

Other winners included:

9- 10- year- old girls champions: Avery Parks – softball throw; and Allison List – 200-meter dash and 400 meter. Members of the championship 4x100-meter relay with a time of 1:20.12 were Brenna Skiles, Megan Fix, Madisyn Culler and Mariah Christy.

9- 10- year- old boy champions: Holden Lupey – standing long jump and 400-meter run; and Dalton Noblit – 50-meter dash.

11- 12- year- old girl champions: Alexis Lupey – standing long jump and 100-meter dash; Aryanna Lupey – softball throw and Ashley Noblit – 400- meter dash.

11- 12- year- old boy champions: Damon Knepper – standing long jump; Grant Hyatt – softball throw; Carter Garlock – 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash; and Kaleb Skiles – 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.

Kellyn Perry Kellyn Perry 13- 14- year- old girl champions: Kyleena Purvis – standing long jump; Hannah Brady – softball throw and 1600- meter run; and Emma Wise – 100-meter dash.

13- 14- year- old boy champions: Liam Flaherty – standing long jump and the 1600-meter run; Kyle McFadden – 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash; and Christopher Wilson won the 800-meter run.

Approximately 25 volunteers helped make the local Hershey Track Meet possible on a picture-perfect day. All champions will be competing in the district meet on June 22 starting at 9:30 a.m. on the Somerset High School track. Next year’s local event will be May 3, 2013.
