Monday, May 27: 9 a.m., What’s Missing? Meet Mrs. Cowan at the park office for a walk through the campground where she will point out some of the things that have changed since she lived here in the 1700s. Several things have gone missing in the area since her time here ... do you know what they are?

10-noon, Nature Center open – Stop by the Brightbill Interpretive Center to discover some of the natural history of Cowans Gap. View the history and wildlife display and try our scavenger hunt!

1 p.m., Lost!! – Basic Survival Skills for Young Campers. While designed to teach young campers what to do should they get separated from their group while in the woods, this program would be a great refresher for the seasoned outdoors men and women as well. Learn some tricks that will help you be found and find out what it is you need to survive and how to get it! This program will be held at the amphitheater.

2:30 p.m., Spring in the Park Walk. Meet at the nature center where we will set out on a walk around the park grounds to see what is popping up and jumping around as the weather gets warmer.

Saturday, June 1: 4 p.m., James Buchanan Celebration! It has been 145 years since the passing of the 15th president. Join us at Buchanan’s Birthplace State Park to find out about his childhood in Cove Gap and his rise to leader of the United States as well as the reasons he is often credited for starting the Civil War.

6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Nature Center Open. Stop by to see our natural history displays and discover a bit about the history of Cowans Gap.

8:30 p.m., Night Hike. Meet at the amphitheater for a stroll through the park after dark to investigate some of the creatures that are just waking up as night sets in. We will learn some of the amazing adaptations these critters have acquired in order to survive in their dark world.
