MEMORIAL SERVICES

Memorial Day Services The 69th Annual Memorial Day service will be held at Wells Valley United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Monday, May 27, 2013. Paul Crawford Jr. will be the quest speaker. A light luncheon will be provided after the service. The public is invited to attend.

Memorial Service Tonoloway Baptist Cemetery Association’s annual memorial service will be held Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. The message will be provided by Pastor Roger Truax of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore. Special music will be provided by Kevin Mallow and Tim Kady of western Maryland. Historical Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church is located on Route 655 just a few miles north of Hancock, Md.

Memorial Services The Damascus Cemetery Assoc. will hold its 77th annual Memorial services on May 26. The service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mac Miller of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren as speaker. Judy Youngblood of Berkeley Springs will provide special music. Lunch will be served in the social room at the church at noon. All are welcome.

Memorial Services Annual Memorial services will be held at Buck Valley Sunday, May 26, starting at Buck Valley Christian Church at 9 a.m., proceeding to Hendershot Cemetery then to Amaranth Brethren Church to Lutheran Church and ending at the Methodist Church. Services start at 11 a.m. Speaker will be Larry Hixon.

Memorial Services Memorial services will be held at Jerusalem Christian Church on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. Rev. Bill Davis will be the speaker and Blessed Friends will provide music.

RELIGION

Revival Rehoboth New Lilfe will hold revival services Sunday, May 19 thru Wednesday, May 22, with Dr. Jeremy and Niki Mays. Sunday services will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weekly services will be held at 7 p.m. Pastor Lowell would like to invite everyone to attend. Gospel Music Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Rodney Tyson, and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. Singles Mingle On Friday, May 17, Warfordsburg Senior Center will host a singles mingle from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This isn’t a dating club. This is for single folks 60 and older to get together and remember old times, tell stories, compare ideas or just sit and enjoy the company of folks like yourself. Mic & Jam Night McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Assoc. will sponsor a Mic and Jam Night in the alumni community gym Saturday, May 18, 2013, starting at 5 p.m. The feature band will be Larry Cooper & Friends. Kitchen will open at 4 p.m.. The museums will be open for all to enjoy. All ages are invited to come and listen, dance, eat and enjoy a night out. 5-K Stilt Walk Gather family and friends and walk alongside Brian Snyder on Saturday, June 8, as he makes a 5K trek on stilts at Giant Steps Walk for A Wish to benefit Make-AWish Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia. The 5K run will take place at 11 a.m., with the walk beginning at 1 p.m., from Juniata Crossing to Juniata Trading Co., Route 30. Registration is $15 and $20 day of the event. Sportsmen’s Open House/Rodeo Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will hold its annual open house and fishing rodeo for children 12 and younger at the trout nursery Sunday, May 19. Registration for the children will start at 10 a.m. Please register children at the desk beside the food trailer in order to be eligible for door prizes and to receive a handout listing the rules for the rodeo. Fishing will start at noon and the drawing for the spring raffle will be at 3 p.m. The food stand will have a variety of foods available including bean soup, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Youth Shoot Fulton Co. Pistol & Rifle Club will hold a youth shoot May 17 and 24, starting at 5:30 p.m. Registration is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Open to all youths to age 16.

Motorcycle Ride Broad Top Community Center is holding its annual motorcycle ride June 2. Registration will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. There will be a ride 100 miles through beautiful central PA. Majorette Camp Majorette camp will be held June 22-25 at Southern Fulton Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Cost is $80 per child. If interested contact Amy Spade Elias at amyrenee02@yahoo.com by June 7.

Motorcycle Run A motorcycle run through scenic Fulton County with Pastor Sam Childers will be held June 15 and 16, sponsored by Evangel Assembly of God. Registration at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments and drinks. Pastor Sam will speak at 11:45 a.m. and ride leaves church at noon. Cost is $20 per bike. From noon to 4 p.m., there will be an outreach at McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends building. Free kids games, music and good eats. Spring Auction Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 3013 Pleasant Grove Road, Warfordsburg, will hold a spring auction May 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Yard sale items begin at 9 a.m. with auctioneer Tim Smith.

Car Show/BBQ Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual car, truck and tractor show and chicken barbecue Sunday, May 19, 2013. The day will also include bluegrass music, as well as craft and flea market vendors. In addition to the chicken barbecue, sandwiches will also be available from the kitchen. Franklin Co. Bus Tour Canceled The Fulton County Historical Society’s June 7 bus tour of Franklin Co. has been canceled due to lack of interest.

55-Alive Driving Class Warfordsburg Senior Center will offer the for 55-Alive/Mature Diving classes May 29 and 30. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by calling the center. Checks are made payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member). Warfordsburg Senior Center is located at 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the 3-year auto insurance discounts. If planning on staying for lunch following the class, please be sure to make reservations when registering. There are no tests involved.

Civil War Book Available Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War Volume I is now available. This book contains 189 photos and 308 veterans in 158 pages. Cost is $26 plus $4. postage. The book has many veterans of prominent Fulton County families. These families all had multiple members in the Civil War. Community Victory Garden The Fulton County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to participate in the second year community Victory Garden within McConnellsburg Borough Wednesdays, to October 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Second Street behind the McConnellsburg Firehall. Plant/Bake/Book Sale A plant, bake and book sale will be held Friday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Fulton County Library, 227 North First Street, McConnellsburg.

Rabies Clinic A rabies clinic, sponsored by Better Days Animal League, will be held at the BDAL Spay/Neuter Clinic located in Penn’s Village Shopping Center Saturday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. All dogs/cats must be at least 12 weeks old and on a leash/in a carrier. Proof of prior vaccination must be provided to receive a 3-year rabies vaccination; $10/1 year and $12/3-year vaccine per dog/cat. Cash or credit cards accepted (no checks). Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages every Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., at Community State Bank. Call for cost and to register at 717-485- 4492.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Chicken/Ribs/Yard Sale A chicken and ribs barbecue and yard and bake sale will be held Saturday, May 18, at St. Thomas Ruritan Building, 3705 Lincoln Way West. Sponsored by United Methodist Church of St. Thomas. Yard and bake sale begin at 8 a.m. and the chicken ribs ready at 10 a.m.

Bean Soup Dinner The annual bean soup dinner at Clear Ridge Community Building will be held May 25 at 11 a.m. Ham dinners, sandwiches, pies and ice cream will be available.

Breakfast In The Park Breakfast will be held at Buck Valley Park May 18, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. A community yard sale will also be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors are needed. Call 717-294-6985. Chicken Barbecue A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, May 18, at Fairview United Methodist Church, beginning at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Chicken Barbecue Needmore Fire Co. is holding a chicken barbecue Sunday, May 19, at 11 a.m. Menu is half a chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad, cake and roll.

Chicken BBQ Fairview United Methodist Church will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, May 18, beginning at 4 p.m., at the community building next to the church, four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Dinners will include half a barbecue chicken, baked beans, applesauce, dinner roll, cake, coffee, iced tea, punch or lemonade. Eat-in or takeout.

Chicken BBQ A chicken barbecue will be held Sunday, May 19, at St. Mary Church, Shade Gap, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will consist of half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce and roll for $8 or chicken and roll only for $6. Community Picnic Everyone is invited to a free community picnic held Saturday, May 18, at Lions Club Park in Mc- Connellsburg, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be good food, good fun with games for the family and good entertainment provided by Guilford Station, a bluegrass gospel band. All food provided including pulled pork barbecue, grilled chicken and pit beef. Come join neighbors, friends and family for a fun afternoon in the park. Hosted by McConnellsburg Presbyterian Church. MEETINGS

Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery May 17. Plans for the open house and children’s rodeo to be held May 19 will be finalized.

Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the community room of Community State Bank located at 415 Fulton Drive in Mc- Connellsburg. Following the business meeting, a “seek-andfind” swap will be held. Anyone interested in participating needs to bring their pre-cut hexagons or bring fabrics with animals or other objects for a seek-and-find quilt to cut and swap that day. Hexagon templates and directions will be available at the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet Tuesday, May 28, at 11 a.m., in the Fulton County Library activity room. Program topic will be ornamental plants. Bring plants for plant exchange. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5736.

BINGO

Bingo Shade Gap Fire Co. will hold bingo at the Shade Gap Ladies Auxiliary building every Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 6:30 p.m.

McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Bingo Ashlyn’s Angels will hold a cash bingo June 2, 2013, at McConnellsburg Volunteer Firehall. Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Light refreshment will be available to purchase. Advance tickets $20, at the door $25. Payouts will be determined by number of tickets sold. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund that will be distributed to all three county schools.
