Thanks Semper Fi Memorial 5K Supporters
To The Editor,
April 20 was a day we will not soon forget due to the unfailing support of the community and all those who value the freedoms we enjoy in this country. The Semper Fi Memorial 5K walk/race was held for the fourth time, and over 200 registrants braved the breezy, cool weather to support the memorial fund.
We would especially like to thank Angie Booth, Mac Miller and Jeremy Hollinshead, who work very hard to make sure the annual event is successful and assure students will continue to make the annual trip to Arlington Cemetery and the Washington, D.C. area. We were very blessed to have 29 sponsors and other numerous donations of time, goods or money. Thank you to Giant Food for the gift card donation that was used for the refreshments and Save-A-Lot for the water donation. We are very appreciative to the Southern Fulton Administration for the use of their facilities. In addition we would like to recognize the home economics department for preparing cookies, and LuAnn Keebaugh and Connie Booth for their assistance in serving. Early morning registration was assisted by Missy Barton and volunteers from the National Honor Society. The Needmore Fire Police ensured the safety of all the participants, and Donnie Golden volunteered his time to provide water at the halfway point. Last but not least, Caitlin Mellott generously volunteered for the second time to provide inspiration as she opened the race singing the national anthem.
Every life touches another in some way, and we can only hope that although Steven’s race is over, we believe he continues to influence the high school youth and inspire a sense of patriotism and love of country.
May we all continue to Run For Freedom.
