On Saturday the 139th Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby was held. The winner was Orb, ridden by Joel Rosario, his first Derby win.

Dave and Pam Keefer and Rick and Susie Keefer held their annual fishing rodeo on Saturday.

The McConnellsburg High School prom was held Friday night at Whitetail Resort. King and queen were Michael Vanderweele and Grace Youngblood.

McConnellsburg Methodist Church held its Mother’s Day banquet on Tuesday evening in the Fulton Theatre, and McConnellsburg St. Paul Lutheran held its banquet on Wednesday evening in the church social hall.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Jacob Ashkettle, Southern Fulton; Corey Hill, McConnellsburg; Macey Hollenshead, Southern Fulton; Samantha Roberts, Mc- Connellsburg, all for track and field; and Tristan Gelvin, Forbes Road baseball; and Haley Lashinsky, Forbes Road softball.

Dolly Peffer’s granddaughter, Gretchen Mellott of Mercersburg, is on a missions trip to Liberia.
