Hymn Sing Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 2709 Mc- Kee’s Gap Road, Warfordsburg, will hold a hymn sing with special music by the New Connections Saturday, May 11, at 6 p.m. There will be a half-hour break for sandwiches, snacks, etc., followed by more music. Memorial Services Memorial services will be held at Jerusalem Christian Church on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. Rev. Bill Davis will be the speaker and Blessed Friends will provide music.

Gospel Music Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Rodney Tyson, and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. Volleyball/Basketball Games Fulton County Community Christian School Boosters will host the FCCCS vs. alumni/ parents volleyball and basketball games at Needmore Bible Church gymnasium May 9 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family at the door. 5-K Stilt Walk Gather family and friends and walk alongside Brian Snyder on Saturday, June 8, as he makes a 5K trek on stilts at Giant Steps Walk for A Wish to benefit Make-AWish Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia. The 5K run will take place at 11 a.m., with the walk beginning at 1 p.m., from Juniata Crossing to Juniata Trading Co., Route 30. Registration is $15 and $20 day of the event. Student Music Recital The students of Richard Overcash will present recital selections Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10, at Calvary Bible Church auditorium. The public is invited free of charge. On Friday at 7:30 p.m., the following students from the McConnellsburg area will perform: Hannah Ott, singing “On My Own” from “Les Misérables;” Nathan Peters will perform “Try to Remember” from “The Fantastics;” and Katelynn Mellott will sing “With a Song in My Heart” from “Spring Is Here.”

Sportsmen’s Open House/Rodeo Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will hold its annual open house and fishing rodeo for children 12 and younger at the trout nursery Sunday, May 19. Registration for the children will start at 10 a.m. Please register children at the desk beside the food trailer in order to be eligible for door prizes and to receive a handout listing the rules for the rodeo. Fishing will start at noon and the drawing for the spring raffle will be at 3 p.m. The food stand will have a variety of foods available including bean soup, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Youth Shoot Fulton Co. Pistol & Rifle Club will hold a youth shoot May 10, 17 and 24, starting at 5:30 p.m. Registration is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Open to all youths to age 16.

5-K Race A 5-K race to benefit Better Days Animal Shelter and McConnellsburg Community/Alumni Building will be held Saturday, May 11. Hosted by McConnellsburg Middle School eighth-grade character education class. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and race starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 before race; $20 day of race; kids’ race is $5 (parent or guardian must be present). Race starts and ends at McConnellsburg High School. Registration forms are available at McConnellsburg Middle School.

Craft/Bake Sale Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a bake sale and crafts sale Friday, May 10, in the front lobby of the center beginning at 9 a.m.

Motorcycle Run A motorcycle run through scenic Fulton County with Pastor Sam Childers will be held June 15 and 16, sponsored by Evangel Assembly of God. Registration at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments and drinks. Pastor Sam will speak at 11:45 a.m. and ride leaves church at noon. Cost is $20 per bike. From noon to 4 p.m., there will be an outreach at McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends building. Free kids games, music and good eats. Spring Auction Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 3013 Pleasant Grove Road, Warfordsburg, will hold a spring auction May 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Yard sale items begin at 9 a.m. with auctioneer Tim Smith.

Lancaster Trip A 3-day and 2-night Lancaster Show & the Dutch Country Trip (Diamond Tours) will be June 26-28 (Wednesday thru Friday), departing from Warfordsburg Senior Center at 8 a.m. Price includes motorcoach transportation, 2-night lodging, four meals: two breakfasts and two dinners; “Noah” show at Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre, guided tour of Lancaster (Amish country); visit to charming Kitchen Kettle Village, admission to the Mennonite Information Center and admission to Landis Valley Museum & Village. New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City Saturday, June 1. The bus departs from McConnellsburg Courthouse at 6 a.m. A stop for breakfast will be made and arrival in New York City near Macy’s at approximately 11:30 a.m. Depart New York City near 9th Avenue between 44th and 45th Street at 6:15 p.m. A stop will be made halfway for supper. Estimated arrival back in McConnellsburg is 12:15 a.m. Cost for transportation and a buffet breakfast is adults $50 and children under 12 $45. Car Show/BBQ Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual car, truck and tractor show and chicken barbecue Sunday, May 19, 2013. The day will also include bluegrass music, as well as craft and flea market vendors. In addition to the chicken barbecue, sandwiches will also be available from the kitchen. Franklin Co. Bus Tour Canceled The Fulton County Historical Society’s June 7 bus tour of Franklin Co. has been canceled due to lack of interest.

55-Alive Driving Class Warfordsburg Senior Center will offer the for 55-Alive/Mature Diving classes May 29 and 30. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by calling the center. Checks are made payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member). Warfordsburg Senior Center is located at 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the 3-year auto insurance discounts. If planning on staying for lunch following the class, please be sure to make reservations when registering. There are no tests involved.

Mother’s Day Flower Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee is sponsoring a Mother’s Day flower sale on Friday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 303 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. Hanging flower baskets and assorted flowerpots will be available.

Civil War Book Available Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War Volume I is now available. This book contains 189 photos and 308 veterans in 158 pages. Cost is $26 plus $4. postage. The book has many veterans of prominent Fulton County families. These families all had multiple members in the Civil War. Lifeguarding Class The American Red Cross will offer a lifeguarding class at James Buchanan High School pool starting on May 10, at 6 p.m. Students must be 15 years old and be able to pass the swimming prerequistes. Benefit Book Sale Friends of Legal Services Book Sale will be held at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg May 10-12. Community Victory Garden The Fulton County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to participate in the second year community Victory Garden within McConnellsburg Borough Wednesdays, April 24 to October 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Second Street behind the McConnellsburg Firehall. Rabies Clinic A rabies clinic, sponsored by Better Days Animal League, will be held at the BDAL Spay/Neuter Clinic located in Penn’s Village Shopping Center Saturday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. All dogs/cats must be at least 12 weeks old and on a leash/in a carrier. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, they are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Chicken/Ribs/Yard Sale A chicken and ribs barbecue and yard and bake sale will be held Saturday, May 18, at St. Thomas Ruritan Building, 3705 Lincoln Way West. Sponsored by United Methodist Church of St. Thomas. Yard and bake sale begin at 8 a.m. and the chicken ribs ready at 10 a.m.

Bean Soup Dinner The annual bean soup dinner at Clear Ridge Community Building will be held May 25 at 11 a.m. Ham dinners, sandwiches, pies and ice cream will be available.

Mother’s Day Smorgasbord Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor its annual Mother’s Day smorgasbord Sunday, May 12, at 11 a.m. A variety of meats, vegetables, salads, desserts and beverages will be featured.

Chicken Barbecue A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, May 18, at Fairview United Methodist Church, beginning at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Democratic Dinner Fulton County Democratic dinner will be held Saturday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Tickets available from committee members or at the door.

Chicken BBQ Fairview United Methodist Church will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, May 18, beginning at 4 p.m., at the community building next to the church, four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Dinners will include half a barbecue chicken, baked beans, applesauce, dinner roll, cake, coffee, iced tea, punch or lemonade. Eat-in or takeout.

Chicken BBQ A chicken barbecue will be held Sunday, May 19, at St. Mary Church, Shade Gap, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will consist of half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce and roll for $8 or chicken and roll only for $6. Mother’s Day Dinner A Mother’s Day dinner will be held Sunday, May 12, at 11:30 a.m., at Fair Ridge Assembly of God Ministries Center, 22776 Piper Lane, Shade Gap. Served will be pan-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, filling, gravy, corn, green beans, creamed lettuce, cake, punch, coffee and tea. Cost is adults $8; children 4-12 - $4; and under 4 free. Community Picnic Everyone is invited to a free community picnic held Saturday, May 18, at Lions Club Park in Mc- Connellsburg, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be good food, good fun with games for the family and good entertainment provided by Guilford Station, a bluegrass gospel band. All food provided including pulled pork barbecue, grilled chicken and pit beef. Come join neighbors, friends and family for a fun afternoon in the park. Hosted by McConnellsburg Presbyterian Church. Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery May 17. Plans for the open house and children’s rodeo to be held May 17 will be finalized.

Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet Tuesday, May 28, at 11 a.m., in the Fulton County Library activity room. Program topic will be ornamental plants. Bring plants for plant exchange. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5736.

HAVFCO Auxiliary Meeting Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its monthly meetings the third Wednesday of every other month. Next meeting is May 15 at 6 p.m.

Cemetery Meeting The annual business meeting of the directors and lot holders of Union Cemetery Co. will be held Tuesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery Church. Anyone who pays “annual lot care” the payment of $5 per lot is now due. Please consider having perpetual care on the lot.

BINGO

Bingo Shade Gap Fire Co. will hold bingo at the Shade Gap Ladies Auxiliary building every Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 6:30 p.m.

McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m.
