Urges Defeat Of Senate Bill 2
To The Editor:
On April 22 approximatley 31 state and public school retirees met to learn how the Pennsylvania Legislature has been underfunding our retirement systems for the past 10 years. If this underfunding isn’t corrected soon, our local taxes may have a sharp increase due to no fault of our own. The Fulton County public school retirees (PASR) invited the state retirees to learn the history of the underfunding of our retirement systems and what should be done to correct it. Our speaker, Tom Svirsko, is our region legislative chair and keeps informed of legislation that affects our retirees. He noted Senate Bill 2 was recently introduced. If this becomes law, all future state and school employees pensions would be seriously hurt. Our retirement associations have presented suggestions to the legislators and governor to correct this problem. If you are concerned about the future of your retirement system, you should send a handwritten letter in an unusual envelope now to Sen. John Eichelberger, 309 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Ask him to help defeat Senate Bill 2.
Retired school employees of the Fulton County Association of PASR meet regularly to keep informed concerning issues of retirees. Our goal is to help us enjoy retirement and to help others. Many suggestions for travel both locally and around the world were mentioned and more information is available. Many of us regularly volunteer to help others in our community. Keep it up. We were important when we were working for the state of PA, and we are still important to our community.
