Hymn Sing Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 2709 Mc- Kee’s Gap Road, Warfordsburg, will hold a hymn sing with special music by the New Connections Saturday, May 11, at 6 p.m. There will be a half-hour break for sandwiches, snacks, etc., followed by more music. Gospel Music Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 19, at 6 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Rodney Tyson, and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. National Day of Prayer National Day of Prayer will be held Thursday, May 2. There will be an informal prayer service held on the courthouse lawn at noon. The service is non-denominaitonal and all are welcome.


Volleyball/Basketball Games Fulton County Community Christian School Boosters will host the FCCCS vs. alumni/ parents volleyball and basketball games at Needmore Bible Church gymnasium May 9 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family at the door. Game Night Game Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center May 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are welcome to come and join in the games: card games (hand and foot, SKIP-BO, Phase 10 and 31) Dominos (regular or Mexican), Scrabble or play the shuffleboard. Youth Shoot Fulton Co. Pistol & Rifle Club will hold a youth shoot May 3, 10, 17 and 24, starting at 5:30 p.m. Registration is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Open to all youths to age 16.

5-K Race A 5-K race to benefit Better Days Animal Shelter and McConnellsburg Community/Alumni Building will be held Saturday, May 11. Hosted by McConnellsburg Middle School eighth-grade character education class. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and race starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 before race; $20 day of race; kids’ race is $5 (parent or guardian must be present). Race starts and ends at McConnellsburg High School. Registration forms are available at McConnellsburg Middle School.

Franklin County Tour Fulton County Historical Society has another bus tour of historic and scenic sites in Franklin County planned for June 7. Bus leaves McConnellsburg at 8 a.m. The tour will include an Alpaca farm, Robert Kennedy Memorial Church at Welsh Run, which has a Tiffany glass window, Conococheague Institute at Rock Hill Farm, lunch in the barn at the Allison-Antrim Museum, tour the 1860 Greek Revival house museum, visit a Mason-Dixon Crown stone (the one in Fulton County near Hancock is inaccessible) and the Enoch Brown Park, site of an 1764 Indian massacre. Craft/Bake Sale Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a bake sale and crafts sale Friday, May 10, in the front lobby of the center beginning at 9 a.m.

Indoor Yard Sale An indoor yard sale will be held at the Faith Center in Warfordsburg May 2 and 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lancaster Trip A 3-day and 2-night Lancaster Show & the Dutch Country Trip (Diamond Tours) will be June 26-28 (Wednesday thru Friday), departing from Warfordsburg Senior Center at 8 a.m. Price includes motorcoach transportation, 2-night lodging, four meals: two breakfasts and two dinners; “Noah” show at Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre, guided tour of Lancaster (Amish country); visit to charming Kitchen Kettle Village, admission to the Mennonite Information Center and admission to Landis Valley Museum & Village. Community Hike Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a family friendly hike Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. Meet at the Oregon Camp parking area, Rt. 30W to Rt. 915N to Oregon Road. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately 2-mile, 2-hour hike over relatively flat terrain. The hike will feature the history of the CCC camp, old turnpike tunnel, railroad bed and arch. New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City Saturday, June 1. The bus departs from McConnellsburg Courthouse at 6 a.m. A stop for breakfast will be made and arrival in New York City near Macy’s at approximately 11:30 a.m. Depart New York City near 9th Avenue between 44th and 45th Street at 6:15 p.m. A stop will be made halfway for supper. Estimated arrival back in McConnellsburg is 12:15 a.m. Cost for transportation and a buffet breakfast is adults $50 and children under 12 $45. Yard/Bake Sale Walnut Grove Church of God, Maddensville, will hold a yard and bake sale Saturday, May 4, at 8 a.m., at the fellowship building on Wible Reunion Road. All items are donated by the congregation, with all proceeds going to the special needs fund.

Car Show/BBQ Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual car, truck and tractor show and chicken barbecue Sunday, May 19, 2013. The day will also include bluegrass music, as well as craft and flea market vendors. In addition to the chicken barbecue, sandwiches will also be available from the kitchen. 55-Alive Driving Class Warfordsburg Senior Center will offer the for 55-Alive/Mature Diving classes May 29 and 30. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by calling the center. Checks are made payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member). Warfordsburg Senior Center is located at 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the 3-year auto insurance discounts. If planning on staying for lunch following the class, please be sure to make reservations when registering. There are no tests involved.

Mother’s Day Flower Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee is sponsoring a Mother’s Day flower sale on Friday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 303 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. Hanging flower baskets and assorted flower pots will be available.

Civil War Book Available Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War Volume I is now available. This book contains 189 photos and 308 veterans in 158 pages. Cost is $26 plus $4. postage. The book has many veterans of prominent Fulton County families. These families all had multiple members in the Civil War. Lifeguarding Class The American Red Cross will offer a lifeguarding class at James Buchanan High School pool starting on May 10, at 6 p.m. Students must be 15 years old and be able to pass the swimming prerequistes. Benefit Book Sale Friends of Legal Services Book Sale will be held at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg May 10-12. Community Victory Garden The Fulton County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to participate in the second year community Victory Garden within McConnellsburg Borough Wednesdays, April 24 to October 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Second Street behind the McConnellsburg Firehall. Rabies Clinic A rabies clinic, sponsored by Better Days Animal League, will be held at the BDAL Spay/Neuter Clinic located in Penn’s Village Shopping Center Saturday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. All dogs/cats must be at least 12 weeks old and on a leash/in a carrier. Tire Recycling Day Fulton County Tire Recycling Day will be held May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. For Ayr and Todd townships and McConnellsburg Borough, take tires to Ayr Township building. Bethel, Belfast, Dublin, Licking Creek,Taylor, Thompson, Union and Wells townships, take tires to respective municipal building. Some townships may charge a fee. Limit 10 tires.
