First Fulton County Flounder Tournament Held
Thirty-five Fulton County residents and former residents braved the cold weather, rain and wind to fish in the first Fulton County flounder tournament. The tournament was held in Chincoteague, Va., and began April 11. The tournament concluded with an awards banquet held at Wright’s Seafood Restaurant April 13.
Winners were determined by the weight of their heaviest fish. A tie for first place occurred as both Hervey Hann and Fred Peck caught flounder weighing 3.5 pounds. Third place at 3.4 pounds was the entry of Bob Swadley. Also catching 3 pounds or larger was fourth place Randy Crouse (3.1 pounds) and Rick Marshall, who was in fifth place with an entry of 3.0 pounds. John Mathias placed sixth; Art Waleski seventh; Russ Gordon eighth; Gary Bohrer ninth; Mike Mellott tenth and Harlan Deshong picked up the last prize with his 11th place catch.
The Sea Hawk Sporting Goods Store in Pocomoke, Md., provided weigh-in services as well as prizes for nonwinners. Prize sponsors were Alexander Financial Group, Gordon’s Memorials, Hamilton Hyundai, Pittman’s Grocery of Hancock, Peck’s Insurance Agency, Peckies Auto Body, Dr. Jack Steele, Sea Hawk and Wright’s Sea Food.
