Gospel Music Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 19, at 6 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Rodney Tyson, and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. National Day of Prayer National Day of Prayer will be held Thursday, May 2. There will be an informal prayer service held on the courthouse lawn at noon. The service is non-denominaitonal and all are welcome.

Senior Center Social Warfordsburg Senior Center’s social will have a “Doo Wop” theme with 50s and 60s music provided by Barb and Forrest on April 26. 5-K Race A 5-K race to benefit Better Days Animal Shelter and McConnellsburg Community/Alumni Building will be held Saturday, May 11. Hosted by McConnellsburg Middle School eighth-grade Character Education Class. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and race starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 before race; $20 day of race; kids’ race is $5 (parent or guardian must be present). Race starts and ends at McConnellsburg High School. Registration forms are available at McConnellsburg Middle School.
Franklin County Tour Fulton County Historical Society has another bus tour of historic and scenic sites in Franklin County planned for June 7. Bus leaves McConnellsburg at 8 a.m. The tour will include an Alpaca farm, Robert Kennedy Memorial Church at Welsh Run which has a Tiffany glass window, Conococheague Institute at Rock Hill Farm, lunch in the barn at the Allison-Antrim Museum, tour the 1860 Greek Revival house museum, visit a Mason Dixon Crown stone (the one in Fulton County near Hancock is inaccessible) and the Enoch Brown Park, site of an 1764 Indian massacre. Community Hike Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a family friendly hike Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. Meet at the Oregon Camp parking area, Rt. 30W to Rt. 915N to Oregon Road. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately 2-mile, 2-hour hike over relatively flat terrain. The hike will feature the history of the CCC camp, old turnpike tunnel, railroad bed and arch. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City Saturday, June 1. The bus departs from McConnellsburg Courthouse at 6 a.m. A stop for breakfast will be made and arrival in New York City near Macy’s at approximately 11:30 a.m. Depart New York City near 9th Avenue between 44th and 45th Street at 6:15 p.m. A stop will be made halfway for supper. Car Show/BBQ Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual car, truck and tractor show and chicken barbecue Sunday, May 19, 2013. The day will also include bluegrass music, as well as craft and flea market vendors. A fire queen contest for girls ages 16-18 within the company’s first-due response area will also be held (girls must be registered in advance.) Civil War Book Available Fulton County Veterans of the Civil War Volume I is now available. This book contains 189 photos and 308 veterans in 158 pages. Cost is $26 plus $4. postage. The book has many veterans of prominent Fulton County families including Akers, Alexander, Anderson, Baker, Barney, Barnhart, Barton, Bishop, Breakall, Brown, Burk, Carnell, Clark, Clevenger, Cline, Cook, Cooper, Cromer, Cutchall, Decker, Deneen, Deshong, Divelbiss, Duvall, Edwards, Ensley, Everts, Fisher, Fix, Fore and Fraker. Do You Need Emergency Food Assistance The Fulton County Food Basket is a nonprofit human service agency providing food on an emergency basis to those in need in Fulton County. As the lead agency for emergency food assistance, the mission is to provide high quality and nutritious food to those who are in need within Fulton County. The Food Basket is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located in the basement of the McConnellsburg Senior Center on Woodside Drive. Earth Day Spring Cleanup The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park will hold an Earth Day spring cleanup. Spring into action April 27, 2013, as Earth Day is celebrated at Cowans Gap State Park. This is a volunteer workday that will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to meet at Pavilion #1. Volunteer projects will include litter removal, fence repair, painting/staining, trail work, Visitor Center cleanup, picnic table assembly and more.
