The Forbes Road School District’s board of directors approved a retirement incentive at their regular board meeting held last Monday evening.

Board members voted unanimously to offer $3,000 to those with 20 years of service; $3,500 to those with 25 years of service; and $4,000 to those with 30 years of service. It was noted that service need not be all inclusive in the Forbes Road School District. In order to take advantage of the incentive, the board set a deadline date of May 1, 2013 for retirement intent letters to be submitted.

During other business, the board approved the 2013-14 budget for the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit #11 (TIU) in the amount of $3,410,912. Members also completed mail ballot forms for proposed candidates to serve as TIU board representatives.

Board members also unanimously voted on a resolution to approve and direct Superintendent Mark Loucks to sign any and all contracts and agreements with the Dept. of Education.

Under miscellaneous agenda items, the board approved a request from Scott Bollman to allow a Civil War demonstration in his class by Michael Klinepeter and Don Swope for April 26.

The board also approved a tentative 2013-14 school calendar as presented.

A request from Cynthia Robinette for use of the auditorium and cafeteria/patio for Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m. was approved. Robinette will use the areas for a piano recital by her piano students.

The board gave approval to begin a graduation award in the name of Robin Feight, funded by donations received by the athletic department at the request of his family. The Girl Scouts were also given approval to establish a memorial garden, in honor of Robin Feight, with the details to be worked out with administration and the board.

The new senior trip itinerary was presented and approved by the board.

During the personnel portion of the agenda, the board accepted, with regret, the retirement of Peggy Bolinger as elementary secretary effective June 30, 2013. The board also approved the addition of Tom Cromwell and Earl Lindberg as substitute drivers for Snyder Bus Line.

In another transportation-related matter, the board approved an addendum to the Transportation Policy regarding purchasing a replacement or additional transportation vehicle to use for transporting Forbes Road students. The addendum set the limitation on van mileage at 200,000 miles and a 20-year-old age limit exclusion for buses effective for the 2014-15 school year.

The board also approved policy revisions on purchases subject to bid/quotation, purchases budgeted and an update to the automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) policy.

During last Monday evening’s meeting, the board met in executive session from 6:27 p.m. to 7:53 p.m., for personnel reasons. The regular meeting began at 7:55 p.m., with reports and updates from the elementary school, the high school and the district.

The Forbes Road School Board meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m., in the high school library. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 6, 2013.
